Our National Day celebration has to be a little muted this year, so what better way to commemorate our nation’s 56th birthday than with food, which is what makes us all truly Singaporean? After all, we aren’t labelled as a nation of foodies for no reason!

Restaurant Gaig has taken our all-time favourite Oyster Omelette to the next level by replacing the original egg element with quail eggs, where the yolks and whites are cooked separately to present you with a classic sunny side up egg that is then served with oysters and caviar on top.

Pastamania has introduced some new must-try locally-inspired flavours just in time for National Day.
First up on the menu is a Fiery Chilli Crab Pasta (S$16.90) that captures the essence of Singapore’s iconic dish, which is now paired with perfectly cooked pasta of your choice.
Fancy slices of pizza instead? Then, grab the Chilli Crab Pizza (7-inch, S$15.90; 10-inch, S$18.90) that takes inspiration from the popular pairing of chilli crab and deep-fried mantou buns.
For an explosion of flavours in every bite, the pizza is slathered with chilli crab and tomato sauce, followed by generous toppings of crab meat chunks and onion slices before finishing with coriander and lime garnishes.
Don’t confirm your order without adding the Crispy Chicken Mid Wings to your list – this side dish boasts a crispy layer of skin and juicy tender meat that’s perfect for sharing with the family over the dinner table.

The Marmalade Pantry
You can never go wrong with sweet treats from The Marmalade Pantry and this time, the restaurant has launched a series of them that are inspired by some of our favourite local desserts.
Making an appearance on the special-edition menu this August is the Gula Melaka Petite Cake (200g, S$20++) and Ondeh Ondeh Cupcake (S$6++) – the latter is also made available in a petite version in the Signature Afternoon Tea Set that you can get from The Marmalade Pantry’s Downtown and Novena outlets.

Swissbake
If you’ve been looking to jazz up your morning breakfasts, look no further than Swissbake’s limited-edition Gula Melaka Toast (S$5.90+) that features premium gula melaka from Indonesia for that deep caramel flavour in a soft, fluffy loaf of bread.
For something classic and simple, go for the Country Milk Toast (S$4.90+) that’s an elevated take of the classic milk bread recipe. Its milky sweet flavour goes well with eggs and avocados, or you can just enjoy it on its own!

Blue Jasmine
Blue Jasmine is one of our favourite authentic Thai restaurants but it’s serving up some local favourites this National Day with an SG 56th Birthday Set!
Kickstart your feast by starting off with a refreshing Glass Noodle Salad with Prawn that’s served with a sweet tangy dressing. Then, pique your taste buds further with mains such as a rich and rich and creamy Thai Coconut Chicken Soup and Dry Red Curry Seabass – both of which are best paired with steamy white rice.
Round out the meal with Colourful Glutinous Rice Balls that are drenched in sweet coconut milk for a beautiful bowl of red and white hues.
If the huge feast isn’t what you’re looking for, opt for Easy Rice Bowls that are portioned individually for convenience. Also inspired by local nyonya flavours, expect a flavoursome Basil Kaprao Bowl that’s served with a soft, wobbly egg and a protein of choice of either minced chicken, flower squid, or vegetables and tofu. Seafood lovers can go for the Fried Fish in Spicy Yuzu Sauce Bowl that comes with a green salad on the side.

Yan Restaurant
Relish your favourite dim sum dishes with Yan’s Dim Sum Party Takeaway Set with highlights that include Steamed Xiao Long Bao with Minced Pork and Chilli Crab Meat Soup.
Also on the menu is a Deep-fried Satay Pork Spring Roll that was inspired by local skewers. Craving Hainanese Chicken Rice instead? Then, dig into the Steamed Hainanese Chicken Rice with Sticky Rice wrapped in Lotus Leaf that is a popular mainstay on the restaurant’s menu.

Savour a locally-inspired brunch this month with W Sentosa Singapore’s Ro-Jiak Brunch.

Popular Japanese Cafe, Baristart Coffee, made this possible by pairing its signature Hokkaido Biei Jersey Milk with milo to create the oozy, creamy filling before finishing off the fluffy cream puff with a dust of icing sugar and milo powder. Yum!
