Taipei

1. YUN ESTATE HOTEL (薀泉荘)

Located near Tamsui River Mangrove Nature Reserve, this hotel is a refurbished apartment that consists of 15 storeys in total. The interior is inspired by Japanese minimalism, so you will feel at ease in every corner of the hotel.

There are 78 suites in total of varying sizes, each named after the five natural elements. You can opt for either a suite with a bathtub or an indoor onsen, so you can soak in the hot spring water within the comfort of your room. If you stay in the suites on the higher storeys, you can even walk out to the balcony and take in breathtaking views of the natural scenery in the area.

There are a total of 95 rooms in this hotel, with three different room types (luxury room, family room, and executive room) for you to choose from. Each room features a bed that is as luxurious as the kind found in more premium hotels to ensure that you get a good night’s sleep.

4. Waterfront Hotel Taipei (松河璞旅)

Sitting on a corner of Songhe Street near Raohe Night Market, this was originally an abandoned warehouse that took more than one year to transform into a contemporary hotel.

The architecture still retains some of the grittiness from its warehouse days, but it certainly feels a lot more polished now with cement and marbled walls, exposed pipes, brass lights, and wooden furniture. Each room has windows that face the Keelung River, Rainbow Bridge, and Xikou Rainbow Wharf, so you can wake up naturally to filtered sunlight and the relaxing view of the flowing river.

This onsen hotel in Yilan will definitely appeal to families or friends travelling together.

All the hotel rooms boast minimalism in the interior design and furnishings to appeal to the younger crowd – they actually resemble greenhouses so that you feel like you’re at one with nature.

If you opt for the family-friendly suite, your kids will have a whale of a time climbing into the attached attic and enjoy the private ‘camping’ experience!

Taichung

7. HOSHINOYA Guguan (虹夕諾雅 谷關)

Dubbed the masterpiece of Taiwan’s hotels in 2019, this is HOSHINOYA’s first luxurious onsen resort outside of Japan, and it is every bit as gorgeous as it sounds.

The 50 rooms are split into two different buildings, with the rooms in each building offering a different kind of view (mountain or backyard river). Each one is made with Japanese interior design elements in mind, the best being the French windows that extend from the ceiling to the floor.

You can sit right in front of the windows and watch the scenery change with the passing of time – it’s been said to look especially stunning during the autumn season, where all you see is a sea of red and golden foliage!
