Best restaurants for CNY reunion lunch or dinner to visit in 2022; enjoy delicious food and great vibes

Have you thought of where to eat for your Chinese New Year (CNY) reunion lunch or dinner yet? Well, if you haven’t, you might want to take a look at our round-up of restaurants so that you can hold your reunion meal there. You might think that it’s still early, but trust us, these places will be fully booked sooner than you think, so it’s always good to plan ahead!

These restaurants are one of the best and you’re guaranteed a great and hearty time with your loved ones when you dine here.

1. Din Tai Fung

For many of us, Din Tai Fung ranks as one of the top few restaurants that we like to go to for Egg Fried Rice and Xiao Long Bao.

Now that it’s CNY, there’s no reason why we should leave this restaurant out of our list of dining options. In fact, to get into the spirit of the new year, Din Tai Fung is back with their Prosperity Smoked Salmon Yu Sheng!

Credit: Din Tai Fung

Their Yu Sheng features shredded strips of carrots, green and white radish, and it is topped with specially toasted, aromatic white sesame seeds and fragrant roasted peanuts. And of course, the highlight of the Yu Sheng is the fatty slices of flavourful Norwegian smoked salmon that is layered on top of everything.

The Yu Sheng is then drizzled with a swirl of Din Tai Fung’s signature auspicious plus dressing and garnished with Crispy Yam Strips – which we think are absolutely tasty.

Here’s a tip: if you can’t get enough of it, you could top-up with an additional serving!

If you would like to elevate your Yu Sheng experience, you can also add on Fried Salmon Skin and additional Sliced Smoked Salmon. We all know that when it comes to tossing to prosperity, everyone attacks the good stuff first, so go ahead and add more of these ingredients so that everyone gets their fill of salmon slices and Crispy Yam Strips.

Do note that reservations are not accepted here.

2. Lobstar

Skip the usual CNY dishes and opt for a Lobstar Reunion Bag (S$288) instead. Feeding six to eight pax, the Lobstar Reunion Bag comes with a plethora of seafood goodness that will have you licking your fingers even after you’re done!

The reunion bag includes Lobstar’s signature rock lobsters (1.8kg), Canadian scallops, green mussels, Asari clams, broccoli, and corn all tossed in a sauce of your choice. Choose from the classic Chilli Crab Sauce, to the addictive Creamy Salted Egg Butter.

Credit: Lobstar

Looking for something that will give you a bit of kick, and perhaps even pair well with a refreshing glass of ice-cold beer? Opt for the Spicy Mala or Black Pepper instead!

You might be thinking that this is going to be real messy to eat, but don’t worry, because you can eat this from the comfort of your own home. That’s right, no one’s going to be judging you as you start using your hands to eat. After all, that’s the best way to enjoy seafood, right?

Order the HUAT HUAT Bundle (S$398) if you’re still intending to toss Yu Sheng. This bundle comes with a Lobstar Reunion Bag, a ‘Get Rich’ Yusheng, carbs, and small bites such as Golden Money Bags with Fish Roe and Fried Mini Mantou.

Check out our review of Lobstar – spoiler alert: we absolutely loved it!

The Golden Creamy Pumpkin Butter Crab, in particular, is an interesting dish to try. This is a sweeter, lower-cholesterol option to the salted egg crab, without compromising on the creaminess of the sauce.

32. Black Tap

Before heading back to your homes for a reunion dinner with your family, you might want to go on a little date with your partner this CNY to catch a little break and to just have a little couple-time.

Since you’ll probably already be having your fair share of Chinese fare, you might want to go to a restaurant that doesn’t serve fully Chinese cuisine. Opt to go to Black Tap for their latest addition to their menu, the Szechuan Lamb Burger (S$24++).

This burger sees a fusion between the East and West, and what you get is a succulent lamb patty marinated in Szechuan BBQ spice, sandwiched in between two perfectly toasted buns. To add to the spice of the patty, the burger also includes an appetising mushroom slaw, spiced lotus chips, and spicy cilantro aioli.

The burger is served with a side of Szechuan spiced fries that are enough to give you that extra kick.

Too spicy? Don’t worry. Just wash it all down with a pint of Black Tap’s refreshing craft beer or one of their signature cocktails.
