If you’re looking to extend your Bangkok itinerary with a breezy seaside break, SO/ Sofitel Hua Hin makes a compelling case.

Located just under three hours’ drive from the Thai capital, the resort feels far enough to properly switch off, yet close enough to slot easily into a short holiday. I visited with my family, including two young children aged four and seven, and left convinced that this is one of those resorts that genuinely caters to families without losing its sense of style.

Thoughtful Family Suites That Everyone Enjoys

Family travel often comes with trade-offs, but SO/ Sofitel Hua Hin minimises them beautifully. Its family suites are designed with real understanding of how families function on holiday. There’s ample space for shared downtime, while children get their own charming cabin-style sleeping nook that feels like an indoor camping adventure. For our kids, the novelty of having their own “camp” made bedtime something to look forward to.

Meanwhile, adults enjoy a proper bed and private space of their own – a detail that shouldn’t be underestimated after a full day in the sun. I appreciate that I get to have the lights on after the kids’ bedtime so I can read a book over a cup of tea and conversations with my husband.
Dining That Pleases Even Young Eaters

The resort’s all-day dining restaurant, White Oven, proved to be a hit with the whole family.

The menu spans Thai, Italian, and Indian cuisines, all executed with care, and importantly, approachable enough for younger palates. Both of my children happily ate their way through meals here; always a small victory when travelling with kids.

Breakfast, in particular, was an exciting affair. The spread offers plenty of options, and the dedicated kids’ corner was a highlight, allowing little ones to help themselves to treats like doughnuts and pancakes. It added a sense of independence and fun that made mornings something they genuinely looked forward to.

In the evenings, the BBQ and hot pot offerings are not to be missed. This was especially enjoyable for families or groups who like to share and linger over dinner.
Activities That Cater to Different Ages (and Energy Levels)
One of So/ Sofitel Hua Hin’s biggest strengths is how much there is to do without leaving the resort. With multiple swimming pools, days tend to fill themselves quickly.

The signature pool features the Adventure Float, a floating obstacle course. This became a favourite for my older child, who even participated in an Adventure Float race, while the rest of us cheered him on from the sidelines.

The mini golf course deserves special mention. Beyond being playful and whimsical, it also offered a sweet bonding moment: my husband took the opportunity to coach our older boy through his first attempts at golf.
While the Adventure Float and golf course are too advanced for a four-year-old, our younger child was still perfectly content splashing around in the wet bubble pool and exploring the beautifully designed golf landscape at his own pace.

Pro tip: Don’t rush through the mini golf course; this is one of the most photogenic spots in the resort and an excellent place to take relaxed, joyful family photos.

Add to that there are cycling tracks, pickleball courts, and a small private beach stocked with beach toys, it’s easy to see why leaving the resort felt almost unnecessary.
“The Tent”: A Calm Space to Wind Down

After active mornings and sun-filled afternoons, “The Tent” became a welcome retreat. Designed as a quieter indoor space, it offers puzzles, books, building bricks, and a gaming console – perfect for decompressing without overstimulation. It’s a thoughtful addition that parents will quietly appreciate just as much as children do.
There’s also a playground outside “The Tent”, where children can spend time at. Our children even forged quick friendships with other children at the playground.
Spa Time for Slower Moments

While the resort leans strongly into family-friendly experiences, adults aren’t forgotten. SO Spa offer a peaceful escape, ideal for easing tired muscles and reclaiming a little personal time while the kids remain happily occupied elsewhere.
I highly recommend parents to book themselves sessions and take turns to relax. Right opposite the spa is a gaming room equipped with giant Jenga, air-hockey table, and a cosy reading corner. So while you’re enjoying a well-deserved massage, your partner could bring the children there to while their time away.
Easy, Well-Curated Excursions
For those keen to explore beyond the resort, excursions to the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market and Nayang Bat Cave can be arranged.

We opted for the Nayang Bat Cave, organised as a private van tour complete with transport to a viewing platform, binoculars, and light refreshments.
While we didn’t manage to catch the bat exodus that day, the experience was still thoughtfully handled and on the right evening, the sight would undoubtedly be spectacular.
Final Verdict?
So/ Sofitel Hua Hin strikes an impressive balance between design-led luxury and genuine family functionality. Travelling with a four- and seven-year-old, we found that everyone in the family – from energetic children to tired parents – had space to play, rest, and reconnect. Whether you’re pairing it with a Bangkok city break or planning a short beach escape on its own, it’s a resort that makes family travel feel not just manageable, but truly enjoyable.
