For the adventurous ones who have always wanted to visit North Korea, or for those who are simply curious to know how life is like in the hermit country, the main problem is that booking a trip there may not be easy as trying too buy air tickets down south.
Here’s a solution: head to a bar in Seoul to get a taste of North Korean life!
Recently, a new bar called ‘Pyongyang Bar’ has popped up in the hip and young Hongdae district. From the vintage exterior decor to the interior furnishings of murals and slogans, full attention has been made to recreate authentic North Korean vibes.
The menu here is closely tailored to the type of food and beverages that you’ll find in North Korea. You must try the Pyongyang naengmyeon (cold noodles) – a local specialty that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un even specially brought to the historic inter-Korea summit in 2018!
Don’t forget to snap lots of photographs of the bottles with fake North Korean labels as well!
If you want to fully convince your family and friends that you’re actually in Pyongyang, you are also welcome to borrow North Korean-style hanbok and wear them for free. The difference between the North and the South hanbok is that the former is typically in bright, bold colours, while the latte’s style is more subdued and ornate.
The bar also contains a mock gift shop stocked with genuine Northern trinkets and snacks for you to bring home souvenirs of your ‘North Korea trip’!
