‘Chief Wombat Cuddler’ needed on Australian island

It sounds like something right out of a children’s storybook, but Flinders Island, sitting north-east of Tasmania in Australia, is looking for a lucky person to be their chief wombat cuddler for Derek, their latest orphaned wombat.

8-month old Derek weighed just 700 grams when he was discovered in his mother’s pouch when she was found dead after getting hit by a car. And boy does this tiny marsupial need some lovin’. Check out more of Derek in the video below.

competition is now on to find someone to take up, what is perhaps, the luckiest job in the world, and the winner will even get to bring a friend along as, maybe, the assistant chief wombat cuddler?

Not only will you and a friend be flown from your nearest Australian capital city to Tasmania’s Flinders Island to smother our little friend with affection, you’ll get to spend three nights exploring Derek’s island home

Unfortunately, entry is open only to Australian residents aged 18 years or older, so it looks like the rest of us will just have to admire from afar.
