If you are a cat lover or are looking to do some exercise after eating all that delicious food in Japan, this rescue cat café offers the perfect activity for you: a cat yoga class!
Neko Shiki is located near Mizonokuchi Station in Tokyo’s neighbouring prefecture of Kanagawa, which is a short train ride from the cpaital. Like many other animal cat cafés, you can opt to just hang around and play with the cats, but what makes this one truly unique is the fact that you can do yoga with the furry felines.
The first cat yoga class was started in 2014, and has become so popular among the locals that it has become a permanent activity.
It may be awkward to do yoga with a group of strangers, but it gets easier to bond with your fellow classmates when you coo over the cats together.
Some of the felines may even park themselves on your yoga mat – don’t be too surprised!
According to the yoga instructor, it is fine to interact with the cats while the class is being conducted, so long as you are still doing your yoga poses correctly.
Tip: your newfound furry friends might tease you a little, especially if your yoga poses aren’t looking too good!
The one-hour cat yoga class costs JPY2990 (around SGD38), which may be a little expensive. However, many people who have tried this class before highly recommend it – in fact, this SoraNews24 reporter loved it so much, she immediately decided to book another session of cat yoga after her first one ended!
Take note that this cat yoga class is open to participants aged six and above. The minimum number of people needed for the class to be conducted is five, while the maximum class size is capped at 12, so be sure to make your reservations at least 60 days in advance!
