After a successful collaboration with Studio Ghibli on a Totoro-themed collection last year, LOEWE worked with the Japanese animation house again to launch the LOEWE x Spirited Away collection.
This capsule collection celebrates one of the studio’s most acclaimed films, Spirited Away, an animated epic from 2001, which has clinched several awards.
Look forward to seeing all of the movie’s most iconic characters, including protagonist Chihiro, mysterious Haku, sorceress Yubaba, Kaonashi (no-face spirit), Fly-Bird, and the Susuwatari soot sprites, featured in this gorgeous collection. These characters are seen on everything from ready-to-wear, blankets, scarves, as well as iconic bags including the Amazona, Puzzle, Hammock, and Flamenco.
A lot of work is put into the craftsmanship. Figures are playfully rendered as jacquard, print, appliquè and patch, and leather marquetry, or embroidery.
For a three-dimensional effect, landscapes become allover prints and the Susuwatari are interpreted as pompoms or as tufty bags. These techniques allow the characters to “come to life” as they are more tactile and “pop” visually too.
We’re probably most excited by pieces that are inspired by the classic “boro” style, a Japanese technique that involves patch-working together mended and indigo-dyed scraps patchworked together, creating intarsia of Kasuri textiles and Anagram jacquard canvas on both ready-to-wear and bags.
To maximise the effect of surface treatment, LOEWE kept shapes loose and relaxed: T-shirts, hooded sweatshirts, cardigans, oversized jumpers, culottes, as well as denim trousers and puffers.
In other words, this is a collection that’s very wearable but oh-so-chic as well.
For LOEWE fans who are looking for the next collectible, you’ll also be happy to know that the brand introduced two news shades: Lagoon Blue and Rouge, presented in a few of its leatherware.

And if last year’s LOEWE x Totoro collection was any indication of the popularity of whimsical offerings by the brand, we expect the items in the collection to fly off the shelves quickly too. In fact, at today’s media preview held in the morning, we already saw a short queue forming outside LOEWE’s ION Orchard boutique before the store opens officially. Our recommendation? Head down quickly if you want to grab these.
