When Darren Star, creator of Sex and the City, reunited with the show’s legendary costume designer Patricia Field to work on a new series, we knew we would be getting a number of memorable fashion moments.
Netflix’s Emily in Paris stars actress Lily Collins as an American social media manager who transfers to a marketing firm her company owns in the capital of France. It is a 10-episode journey through Emily’s adventures in learning the language, culture, and faux pas of her new home, all while rocking some notable outfits that shouldn’t work, but do.
Her looks may not be to your taste – think a slightly less refined version of Carrie Bradshaw – but there’s no denying her ballsy sartorial choices, which have since caused a stir on the Internet. Ahead, we’ll show you how to sport five of her most iconic looks on the show.
1. Check her out
Emily rarely leaves her apartment without some form of a hat on her head, and her series of berets definitely stole the show. There’s no combination that’s more quintessentially French than a red beret and a classic quilted Chanel handbag.
In the third episode of Emily in Paris, Emily mixes it up with a checkered blazer by one of Megan Markle’s favourite designers, Veronica Beard. This sustainably-made blazer will set you back by a whopping £300 (that’s S$530), but there’s an easier way to replicate her outfit without breaking the bank.
All you need to remember is to keep your checks in monochrome and add a splash of red or any other bright hue to channel your inner Emily.

2. Green with envy
When it comes to layering, do as Emily does and don’t be afraid to embrace bold pops of monochromatic colour. In one of the season’s most standout looks, Emily wears a green Chanel jacket with a printed scarf and a pistachio-coloured bucket bag.
Her Chanel jacket, which retails for around £5,000 (S$8,836), might be way out of anyone’s price range. Plus, her Staud bucket bag might well be sold out everywhere, but we’ve got a few other options to share.

3. Walking on sunshine
In the first episode of Emily in Paris, our protagonist steps out in a bright, sunshine yellow Ganni dress, which she cinches in with a black studded belt. Her ultra-steep Manolo Blahnik Chaos black sandals add the perfect finishing touches to the outfit.
Compared to her other ensembles, this is the easiest one for us to pull off in Singapore’s humid climate. A pop of citrus anchored by an edgy belt creates a wearable look that will take you from day to night.

4. Black swan
Patricia Field conceived Emily’s looks in collaboration with French costume designer Marylin Fitoussi, with the pair drawing plenty of inspiration from Audrey Hepburn.
Emily wears a stunning off-the-shoulder black dress by Christian Siriano, which is a nod to the late actress’ timeless style. She completes the look with crystal-adorned pumps, Agnelle gloves, and La Compagnie du Costume jewels.

5. Clash of the prints
We believe that the key to nailing these Emily in Paris looks is by embracing your quirks and letting your imagination run free. If that involves a mishmash of colours, prints, and textures, it’s more than welcome.
On her first day at work, Emily cobbled together an outfit with an Alice + Olivia blouse that features the Eiffel Tower, a mini snakeskin skirt, a beige and black bowling bag, and booties with a collage print.
