First, we had the hypebeast-worthy Louis Vuitton shipping containers that docked at our port earlier this year.
And now, the iconic Olympia bag from the quintessentially British fashion house, Burberry, has made its way to the Lion City – and let’s face it, it’s not every day that you see a giant Burberry handbag standing tall in front of one of the most iconic shopping malls in Singapore.
From now until 29 August 2021, the impressive art installation of the sophisticated Burberry Olympia bag will be parked in front of ION Orchard for onlookers to marvel at.
Being one of the most recognisable luxury fashion brands out there, you certainly won’t miss the sculpture when you’re spending the day at the shopping belt.
This is not the giant Olympia bag’s first rodeo though – Singapore is, in fact, the third city in the world to display the art installation.
If you’ve paid close attention to your social media recently, you would’ve seen the larger-than-life model sailing on the float along the River Thames in London (pictured above) before making an appearance at the Palm West Beach in Dubai (pictured below).
Using the skyline of urban destinations as its backdrop, there’s no denying the timeless beauty of the Olympia bag that just effortlessly turns heads.
According to a statement from the official website, the aim of exhibiting these colossal installations in global landmarks around the world is to showcase “the Olympia bag’s story of artistic precision and craft”.
For the unaware, Burberry’s sculptural Olympia bag is a Riccardo Tisci design launched earlier this year. Thanks to its slim structure and smooth leather, the shoulder bag comes with a unique, curved silhouette that moulds closely to the body.
Crafted and hand-shaped in Italy by artisan makers, this designer bag quickly became one of the latest “it bag” of the year with its streamlined details, clean stitching, and adjustable shoulder straps that give the wearer sleek, hands-free ease.
After marvelling at the Olympia bag’s impressive size and taking tons of photos of (and with) the up-scaled model of this elegant bag, you can, of course, make your way to the Burberry boutique at ION Orchard to check out the new and exclusive designs of the actual wearable Olympia – it comes in mini, small, and medium sizes, as well as a pouch version, by the way.
Other than brown, the signature accessory comes in shades like black, burgundy, pale blue, and deep orange – and honestly, we can’t help wanting one for ourselves too.
If you can’t resist snagging one of the Olympia bags for yourself, here are the numbers you need to know: prices start from S$2,090 for the mini size while the small costs upwards of S$2,650.
Meanwhile, expect to shell out from S$3,250 for the medium, and from S$1,150 onwards for the Olympia pouch.
So, where will the giant Olympia head to next? Keep up with the larger-than-life bag’s travels on Burberry’s Instagram, official website, and the official hashtag #thejourneyofolympia.
