Ultimate guide to bubble tea options in Singapore – 47 brands & counting! (2021 edition)

Bubble tea has been gaining popularity in Singapore these few years, and so many new brands have opened shop on our shores that most of us have probably lost track of what’s what in the bubble tea world.

For those who are planning to conquer all the bubble tea shops in Singapore, you’re in luck: AVENUE ONE has compiled the ultimate guide to bubble tea brands and shops in Singapore, listed in alphabetical order. We’ve included the big names that you probably already know, as well as some unique offerings that you may not be familiar with – yet.

We’ve not included most of the neighbourhood bubble tea shops for simplicity’s sake, but if you know of any fantastic ones that Singaporeans must know of, do share them with us!

1. Answer Tea (Permanently Closed)

Have a problem that’s been hounding you for days? While bubble tea is a good solution to all our troubles, Answer Tea takes it up one notch by offering to answer your questions for you: simply write your question on the cup holder, order a drink from their Macchiato Series, and you can get an answer printed on the surface of your macchiato froth with edible in!

This bubble tea brand has also been working with fan clubs to print their idols’ photos on foam during special fan events – so cute!

2. ARTEA

Source: Daniel Food Diary

ARTEA brands itself as a café, rather than another bubble tea brand. It seeks to combine tea-drinking with art, hence the beautiful, Instagram-worthy interior (and drinks, of course).
Their top recommended drinks include the Signature Fruit Tea, which contains seven varieties of fruits (watermelon, rock melon, strawberries, mango, orange, passionfruit, and lime) in a blend of orange juice and oolong tea.

If you’re not keen on fruits, you can also opt for the Black Tea Latte, which uses Ceylon tea for a fuller taste.

Bobii Fruitti thinks of their distinct-coloured and “Instagram-worthy” bubble teas as non-alcoholic cocktails, a nod to the beautiful blend of ingredients used in each flavour offered. Each cup is made using milk, tea and colourful pearls, without any artificial preservatives or flavourings.

You can choose from a variety of five teas (including the Singapore-exclusive Cheese Tea), as well as three types of pearls (original, butterfly pea, and brown sugar), which are made in Taiwan and air-flown to Singapore. Matcha lovers should order the Uji Snow, which is made using hand-whisked matcha and brown cane sugar from Taiwan.

With a history dating back to 1998, Singapore is CHICHA San Chen’s first venture outside of Taiwan and China, and they have brought over their most popular Bubble Milk Tea, Dong Ding Oolong Fresh Milk Tea and Bubble Brown Sugar Milk Tea.

The Dong Ding Oolong Tea actually achieved the Highest International Authority iTQi certification (International Taste & Quality Institute in Brussels) in 2017, which is equivalent to getting a Michelin three-star!

If you are up for something unconventional, look for the High Mountain Pouchong Tea with Lemon Juice and Cassia Black Tea with Mousse.

8. Each-a-Cup

Source: Du Lich Vietnam

Many of us may have fond memories of drinking Each-a-Cup during our school days – after all, it claims to be the oldest bubble tea brand in Singapore that has been around since 1999, during the first bubble tea craze.

They’re still going strong despite the onslaught of contenders in recent years, thanks to their loyal fan base, reasonable prices, as well as local flavours that other bubble tea chains don’t offer. Customers highly recommend the Oreo Crush, Ice Blended Milo, and Ice Blended Bandung if you are looking for something unique to this brand.

Gong Cha came, conquered, left, and returned again, and throughout it all, Singaporeans have remained loyal to this Taiwanese bubble tea brand (now owned by their South Korean franchisee).

The menu’s signature is the Brown Sugar Boba Milk, which features warm brown sugar and chewy tapioca pearls served with chilled fresh milk.

If you want to make things more interesting, you can order the exclusive Brown Sugar Boba Thai Milk Tea, which brings together Singapore’s favourite drink trends (brown sugar milk tea and Thai milk tea!) in one beverage.

16. Jiak Zua (???)

Source: Deliveroo

Want to chill with a cup of bubble tea on a work afternoon? Time to go Jiak Zua! For the uninitiated, ‘jiak zua’ means to skive – and while we don’t encourage that you laze around at work, there is nothing stopping you from getting a nice cup of tea!

Jiak Zua uses their own sugar in their drinks, which is produced in-house and said to be a healthier option. The Mix Fruit Tea (SGD6.90) is one of the bestsellers, though some others may recommend the cheese tea, topped with a thick and creamy cheese foam.

Address: 138 Robinson Road, #02-01/02 Oxley Tower, Singapore 068906

Websites: Facebook

17. KOI Thé

Source: Time Out

Known as 50 Lan in hometown Taiwan, KOI Thé is also one of the earliest bubble tea chains to come to Singapore – and continue to thrive. While the bubble tea brand has modified its menu over the years, one popular item that has withstood the test of time is the milk tea.

However, take note that they no longer serve the black tapioca pearls that we are familiar with. The closest you can get is Golden Bubbles, which are essentially honey pearls.

18. Kung Fu Tea

The Washington Post calls this the ‘Starbucks of bubble tea’, which says a lot about its popularity in the international sphere. It actually originated from the United States, which is interesting, considering that most other famous bubble tea brands usually hail from Taiwan and China.

Be sure to try their signature drink, 38 Milk King: it is sweet, creamy and topped with an assortment of pearls, grass jelly, and agar.

If you had to pick just one drink (because we can’t afford all those calories), we’ll recommend going for the brown sugar beverage. It’s been widely compared to Tiger Sugar’s iconic brown sugar milk drinks, but with one main difference – the former costs only a fraction of the latter’s price!

Go for the Mighty Luffy on hot days – the incredibly large 1,000cc cup filled with red tea and a variety of tropical fruits is the perfect thirst-quencher.

The classic milk tea comes with a strong tea flavour and rich creamy taste, making it a safe choice for anyone trying out this brand for the first time. The brand has limited their bubble tea offering to just four different milk tea flavours: Peach Oolong, Black Tea, Roasted Oolong, and their signature 23 Oolong. That means they focus on what they really do best to satisfy even the pickiest of drinkers – nice!

The collection of Fruit Teas on the menu uses either Four Seasons Tea from Taiwan, Royal Ceylon Black Tea from Sri Lanka or Green Tea paired with an assortment of fruits to create the different drinks. They also offer caffeine-free Stirring Milk containing caramel sauce and pearls for those who are not too keen on tea.

It is famous for Deerioca, The Alley’s signature freshly-prepared hand-crafted tapioca pearls that supposedly taste better than their machine-made counterparts. One of the best drinks to chew on their delicious pearls is the Brown Sugar Deerioca Fresh Milk – the pearls are brewed for four hours in all-natural brown sugar!

38. Tiger Sugar

Source: The Straits Times

While Tiger Sugar was probably not the first to create brown sugar bubble tea, it definitely was one of the pioneer bubble tea brands that brought this well-loved flavour to Singapore.

The “Tiger Sugar” name came about from the ‘tiger stripes’ formed by the dark brown sugar syrup layered with the thick milk. Unlike other bubble tea brands, you cannot customise the sugar level or amount of ice or toppings – that also means your queue moves much faster!

Don’t miss out on their best-selling Brown Sugar Boba series, although you can also try their tea lattes if you are not keen on brown sugar.

43. Woobbee

Remember the PiPaGao bubble tea that made its rounds on the Internet? That is the brainchild of Woobbee, a local bubble tea brand that has been around since 2010.

That is not their only healthy option on the list though – Woobbee uses only raw sugar in all their teas, meaning that you consume less calories with a more natural taste, so go forth and order the signature Frothy Milk Tea!

Are we done with brown sugar milk tea yet? The answer appears to be no, as another popular Taiwanese brand has landed in Singapore with none other than the “stir-fried” Brown Sugar Boba Milk.

45. Yifang Fruit Tea

Although there are a plethora of fruit tea shops, probably the most famous in Taiwan is none other than Yifang Fruit Tea.

They don’t promise quirky flavours or interesting ingredients, but they definitely don’t compromise on the ingredients used: their Taro drinks, for example, are made with taro imported from Taiwan. Customers have also commended the subtle tea flavour that balances well with the other ingredients, instead of being too overpowering.

46. Yuan Cha

Source: Deliveroo

The founder of Yuan Cha used to run our favourite Gong Cha before he left to establish his very own bubble tea brand.

Yuan Cha serves bubble tea and a premium range of high-mountain oolong tea from a 200-year-old plantation, Sheng Sheng Tea in Nantou, Taiwan. The menu currently serves 40 drinks made from six different types of teas.

Their milk teas feature a very strong tea taste, which tea lovers will certainly appreciate. If you are worried that you may not like the tea you have chosen, you can even sample it before you commit to a full cup!

47. Yunique Tea (???)

Source: Seth Lui

As its name implies, Yunique Tea aims to serve, well, unique tea.

Their must-try is The Yunique Speciality, which comes with a base of warm and chewy brown sugar pearls. Although brown sugar milk tea doesn’t really sound unique (just count the number of brands in this list selling that flavour!), the sweet pearls are actually doused in a mix of fresh milk, whipping cream, and vanilla ice-cream!

If that sounds like an overkill to you, opt for the Banana Bean Smoothie, which resembles a breakfast drink made with ingredients like bananas and red bean
