Into its sixth year since the debut of its Chinese Traditional Festival sets, the LEGO Group has introduced its annual festive release for this year: 80112 LEGO Spring Festival Auspicious Dragon and 80113 Lego Spring Festival Family Reunion Celebration.
New LEGO Chinese Traditional Festival Sets in 2024
The Auspicious Dragon set, in particular, caught the eyes of my little LEGO enthusiast at home. The majestic appearance reminds him of the NinjaGo dragons and mech figures he loves to build.
While this buildable toy dragon comes with 1,171 pieces and is recommended for players aged 10 years and above, my five-year-old has no problem following the instructions – all it took was patience.
The set even comes with a beautiful illustration and description of the Auspicious Dragon’s significance, which helps us share more about Chinese culture during the build.
He’s still working on it at the time of writing – I think he should be able to finish it within the next two days, in time for Lunar New Year, and I’ll be placing it prominently in our house. I’m sure it’ll make for a great conversation-starter for my guests when they visit too – my son will be so proud!
If you prefer a set that features many minifigures that you can use for storytelling and creative play with your child, the Spring Festival Family Reunion Celebration will be the one to go for.
This plays out a family reunion at a traditional restaurant and features 13 minifigures. You’ll see a dining room where the family is enjoying noodles or chicken, karaoke singing, and even a romantic dinner for two on the roof as the characters wait for fireworks to be set off.
