If you love shopping at Don Don Donki and listening to their theme song that plays throughout the store, you would be glad to know that the largest Don Don Donki in ASEAN has just opened. While it didn’t open right here in Singapore, it did open over in Malaysia, which we all know is just a four-hour car ride away. And now that the land Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) with Malaysia has been established for Singapore citizens, we finally get to visit the country again and shop there!
JONETZ by Don Don Donki opened its second outlet in Malaysia on 10 December, and it’s already attracting crowds. The store spans 42,243 square feet across two floors and offers a huge range of Japanese products imported directly from Japan. This time, it features never-before-seen sections that will surely make you want to drop everything now just to visit.
Lots of products to shop for
If you thought that your local supermarkets had a wide variety of chocolates and snacks, wait till you see what JONETZ by Don Don Donki has to offer. They have KitKat chocolates in flavours like milk tea, dark chocolate, green tea, deep matcha, whole grain, raspberry, and original.
They also sell matcha ice cream bars filled with azuki red beans and the exclusive Ice Kinako Tiramisu shortcake that you should definitely try out. This shortcake is a mixture of roasted soybean flour, brown sugar, ice cream, cream, and sponge cake.
Halal-certified food section
One of the new sections is the halal-certified food section that includes everything that you can possibly dream of. There’s ramen, snacks, frozen foods, ingredients, and side dishes.
You might be a bit worried since these products come from Japan, and they may be certified by halal certification bodies in Japan that may not have the same standards. However, the products in this section have been approved by JAKIM, also known as the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia, and you can purchase them without any doubts. They have also kindly included the logos of the Japanese halal certification bodies that are approved by JAKIM so that you know what to look out for when shopping.
They also offer fresh cuts of Wagyu beef and sashimi so that you can bring them home for a good Japanese feast with your loved ones.
Another new section is the CosmeDONKI, which is a section catered to all of the Japanese beauty products. This section is huge, so you can take your time to walk around and discover new products that could be useful.
Want to get rid of your blackheads? You can purchase the famous Keana Baking Soda series to counter all the skincare issues you are facing.
In need of a good night’s sleep but can’t seem to get any? Purchase this steam patch and feel all your worries melt away as you drift off to dreamland at night!
While this isn’t something new for us Singaporeans since we do have this section here, this is the first time Malaysia is getting it. For the uninitiated, the Furu Furu section features fresh vegetables, fruits, and juices. If you’ve been wanting to try some of the seasonal fruits of Japan to sate your appetite for travelling, you can buy some here! One fruit in season right now is the strawberries from the Fukuoka and Saga prefectures.
You can also try these bottles and tetra paks of apple juice. It’s said that they’re 100% made from Japanese apples, so you know you’re getting a real taste of Japan when you purchase these.
Yatai food court
After shopping around the entire store, you’ll probably be tired and hungry. Before you leave this place, be sure to drop by the yatai food court, another new section that is introduced at this outlet. This food court is filled with Japanese mobile carts selling popular Japanese street food. It will feel like you’re walking around the streets of Japan and tasting the delicacies there.
Some of the food available are bento sets, taiyaki, takoyaki, oden, and ikayaki.
After you’ve bought your food, you can either bring it home or head on over to the seating area within the food court to enjoy your food while it is still hot. You should be able to find a seat since there are 170 seats available here.
Now, we’re sure you’re really excited to head there, so in order to help you plan your next trip to Malaysia once the land VTL is established on 20 December, you can refer to the following details:
