Fitbit’s new voice-activated Versa 2 is going to improve your sleep quality so you’ll feel refreshed every morning

Fitbit pioneered wearable sleep tracking more than 10 years ago, making information previously only available from a medical professional widely accessible on the wrist.

Now, the smart tech brand has applied learnings from more than 10.5 billion nights of sleep tracked to create a new smartwatch that will give complete data on sleep that you have never been able to access outside of medical institutions: the Fitbit Versa 2.

Here’s what you can do with possibly the best smartwatch of the year:

Get help to sleep better

If you have a Fitbit device, you may already be using the data that your Fitbit collects to better understand how much sleep you are getting per night. With the following functions, you not only receive detailed information on your sleep but are also able to get your Fitbit to assist you in getting better sleep!

Sleep Score

Fitbit’s current data allows you to see various statistics, such as how much deep sleep you are getting and whether your sleep gets interrupted often. However, many of us may not know what that means – would a shorter deep sleep duration mean that we are not getting enough good sleep?

To solve this problem, the Versa 2 now allows you to receive a nightly score in the app for better insight into your sleep quality. You will be given a score based on several metrics, including heart rate (sleeping and resting), restlessness, time awake, and Sleep Stages. This helps you to understand whether getting longer shut-eye or more naps is really doing you more good.

Smart Wake

Have you ever wondered why you sometimes feel better getting less sleep than if you woke up more than eight hours later? Chances are, it’s not so much because less sleep is better for you, but because you woke up when you are in the stage of deep sleep: research has shown that it is hard to wake from deep sleep, and if you do, you may feel particularly groggy.

Versa 2 will be the first Fitbit smartwatch to roll out the Smart Wake function, where your watch uses machine learning to wake you during an optimal time of your sleep cycle while in light or REM sleep, based on a pre-selected 30-minute interval.

Take for example, you programme the Fitbit Versa 2 to wake you up between 7am and 7.30am. You’re in deep sleep mode at 7am but eventually get into light or REM sleep mode at 7.20am. When the device detects that, it will wake you up so you’ll feel more refreshed, and never feel like death in the morning again!

Sleep Mode

We all dislike getting spam calls in the middle of the night, so now you can use your Fitbit Versa 2 to simultaneously disable your screen display and silence notifications for a night free of disturbances. You can also enable Sleep Mode anytime you don’t want to be interrupted, like during a workout or in a meeting.

Estimated Oxygen Variation Graph

A new function that is coming to Versa 2 soon is the Estimated Oxygen Variation Graph – this graph will provide users with an estimate of the variability of oxygen levels in their bloodstream. Being aware of short-term variations in the oxygen levels in your bloodstream may indicate variations in your breathing during sleep, and can sound out potential breathing problems.

Other advanced health and fitness features on Versa 2 include: automatic activity tracking, PurePulse® 24/7 heart rate tracking, 15+ goal-based exercise modes, connected GPS and water resistance up to 50 meters.

Tell Alexa to help you find the nearest gym

Want to hit the gym but don’t have time to search it on the phone? No problem – now you can simply ask your Versa 2 where the nearest gym is, and you’ll get the answer you want instantly.

Enabled by Fitbit’s first on-device microphone, Versa 2 is the first Fitbit smartwatch with Alexa Built-in. You don’t have to worry about Alexa bleeping responses in public either: in contrast to Alexa-enabled home devices, Versa 2’s Alexa responds to voice commands with discreet, silent on-screen text responses.

You can also get Alexa to help you with everyday tasks on-the-go, like setting alarms and timers, checking the local weather and news, controlling your smart home devices, and much more – all you have to do is tell Alexa, and you’ll get the job done in no time!

Note that Alexa is currently not available in Singapore – but once it’s launched here, you’ll already be a step ahead of the game with the Fitbit Versa 2!

Pay and play on the go

Versa 2 comes with even more features to add convenience and ease to your day, like Fitbit Pay on all models, so you can make easy and secure payments at retailers and access seven transit systems worldwide, even if you don’t have your phone with you. While this currently does not include Singapore, you can look forward to using your Fitbit to pay overseas, such as on New York MTA OMNY, TransLink in Vancouver, Transport for London (TfL) and Taiwan iPASS.

Fitbit is also bringing the Spotify app experience to Versa 2, allowing Spotify Premium subscribers to control music and podcasts so you can find all-day motivation directly from your wrist. The Spotify app lets you control playback on-the-go, change playlists, like songs, and easily switch music output while you jogging, so you don’t have to reach for your phone to change the song. Additionally, Versa 2 has the ability to store and play 300+ songs from your personal music library.

Versa 2 doesn’t just offer features that help you to play better – it also helps the busy workaholic with everyday life. The new Versa is equipped with essential smart features like smartphone notifications so you can view app, call, calendar, and text notifications right from your wrist. If you have an Android phone, you can also use the new on-device microphone to reply to texts and notifications from the wrist – so convenient!
