A New Art Trail Is Taking Shape in Duxton — and You’re Invited to Walk It

If you think Singapore Art Week is all white walls and hushed galleries, think again. In 2026, art spills into the streets — quite literally — as Mondrian Singapore Duxton unveils a bold new public mural and launches free guided art tours that invite everyone to experience contemporary art in one of the city’s most vibrant neighbourhoods.

The occasion marks the debut of the Singapore Tourism Board’s Creator Residency Programme, piloted in conjunction with Singapore Art Week 2026, and anchored by a striking, site-specific mural created live in the heart of Duxton.

Art You Don’t Have to “Go Looking For”

At the centre of it all is Mondrian Singapore Duxton’s iconic front staircase, transformed into a large-scale mural by Singaporean visual artist tobyato and Filipino artist Jappy Agoncillo. Titled Leon at Lion, the work blends bold colours, graphic forms and playful symbolism — a visual expression of “rojak” culture, where different influences collide to create something distinctly Singaporean.

Set beside the hotel’s towering KAWS sculpture, the staircase mural turns an everyday thoroughfare into a cultural landmark — one you can stumble upon, photograph, linger over, and return to.

This mural is a starting point of a wider creative exchange. As part of the Creator Residency Programme, artists from across Southeast and East Asia were paired with Singapore-based creators, spending two weeks exploring neighbourhoods, people and cultural touchpoints before translating those experiences into art.

Mondrian Singapore Duxton serves as both canvas and cultural host, reinforcing the idea that art doesn’t belong behind closed doors. It belongs where people already are.

To celebrate the unveiling, Mondrian Singapore Duxton is opening its doors — and its collection — to the public through complimentary guided art tours, happening bi-weekly on the first and third Friday of every month at 4pm.

Led by knowledgeable guides, the tours take guests through:

  • The newly unveiled Leon at Lion staircase mural
  • KAWS’ six-metre bronze sculpture WHAT PARTY
  • Works by Tracey Emin, Ian Davenport, Dawn Ng, Tyler Shields and more
  • Art pieces woven throughout social spaces and guestrooms

Whether you’re an art lover, a curious first-timer, or simply looking for a fresh way to spend an afternoon in the city, the tour offers an easy, engaging entry point into Singapore’s contemporary art scene — no gallery fatigue required.
