It’s September, but none of us can get over that (spoiler alert!) surprise twist ending of Avengers: Infinity War. If you’re still blue over it, well, we have the perfect solution for you: the Sentosa Sandstation exhibit. You might be wondering, what does this have to do with the Avengers? Well, everything, apparently, considering the exhibit is Marvel themed this year!
Spanning close to 3,000 metres over at Siloso Beach, the Sentosa Sandstation: Marvel edition, is all about your favourite Marvel Cinematic Universe characters. We’re talking classic favourites like Captain America and Iron Man, as well as new additions such as T’Challa (or the Black Panther, as most people might know him) and Spiderman.
Be prepared to be wowed by imposing, life-like-sculptures towering over you as you pass. The amount of detail that goes into each piece is incredible, really— from the various accents of Iron Man’s suit to the rising peaks and towers of Thor’s Asgard. They also appear surprisingly solid, despite being made of sand. If you have nightmares about these sculptures dissolving the second rain hits, well, trust us— these babies aren’t toppling anytime soon.
Be sure to get photos with all of your favourite characters before the exhibit ends on the 16 September. This year’s full-lineup includes all of the popular characters in the recent movies: Captain Marvel, Black Widow, Spiderman, Iron Man, Hawkeye, Captain America, Black Panther, Ant-Man, Hulk, Medusa, Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange, Thor, and the big bad of Infinity War: Thanos, of course!
But wait, there’s more?! Yup, we couldn’t believe our eyes when we were told that there would be 14 more Marvel-inspired sand sculptures, with the Sentosa International Sand Sculpting Championship underway. The participants were hard at work when we arrived, sanding, filing down and hosing down their work stations as they slaved over their masterpieces.
That’s not all there is to do, of course. There are sand sculpting workshops for the little ones and for the ones who are young at heart, where you’ll get to learn how to make a sand house of your own as pictured above. There are three different timings for the workshop: 11am, 2pm, and 5pm. Trust us, it’s not easy, but it is a lot of fun.
There are also interactive booths and games, such as the Hulk Smash booth, where you’ll get to test out your strength against a titular character from the Marvel Universe. Slip on a pair of Hulk gloves, yell, and slam down onto the granite counter as hard as you canto feel the ground shake and tremble beneath you. It’s pretty darn satisfying, if we have to say so ourselves! The young ones are sure to adore it as well.
The fun doesn’t stop there — there’s also a Freeze-Frame Station, where you can take some great photos to commemorate your day out in the sun and sand with Marvel. Once that’s done, wrap it all up by heading down to the Hero Action Centre to visit to pick up some Marvel souvenirs of your own.
You can even stand to redeem limited edition Marvel comic books and other attractive prizes, depending on how much you spend! Every S$50 spent at Sentosa (with a maximum of 3 combined same-day receipts) earns you a token, which you can use to redeem for a turn at the Hulk Smash, the Freeze-Frame, or to obtain a limited edition Marvel Comic Book instead.
The Sentosa Sandstation Marvel Edition is open daily from 10am-9pm from the 1-16 September 2018. Admission is free.
