Marina Bay

1. Watch beautiful light projections adapted from students’ artwork

Get into the celebratory mood early – in fact, as early as 26 December, you can watch colourful and mesmerising light projections on the façades of key landmarks in the Marina Bay area. These projections are adapted from artworks created by students and beneficiaries of local schools and welfare organisations, as part of the Build a Dream initiative in partnership with the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre to support the less fortunate in fulfilling their dreams and personal development.

Catch the light projections at the following landmarks:

  • The Fullerton Hotel Singapore: 15-minute intervals between 8pm and 10.30pm from 26 to 30 December 2018, and between 8pm and 11.30pm on New Year’s Eve.
  • ArtScience Museum: between 8.15pm and 10.30pm from 29 to 31 December
  • The Merlion: between 8pm and 10.30pm from 29 to 30 December 2018, and between 8pm and 11.30pm on New Year’s Eve.

Besides supporting these students’ artwork, you can do good by making a donation. Find more details about how to donate via the Marina Bay Singapore Countdown website.

2. Be dazzled by a sensory fireworks musical

STAR ISLAND Singapore Countdown Edition is a fireworks musical extravaganza that promises to wow you with an hour of performance acts by Taiko drummers, dancers, and fire performers, synchronised to fireworks, pyrotechnics, lights and 3D surround sound. You will also be involved in the show with a LED band that synchronises with the show elements – sweet!

For those with families, you’ll be happy to know as well that there is a Star Playground for Kids, featuring inflatable play zone for the young ones that will keep them entertained before the show starts.

For ticketing details, visit their website.

3. Enjoy live performances by local talent

If you prefer to simply wind down with good music, head to The Promontory or Esplanade to view live performances by our talented local artistes.

In addition, Mediacorp artistes and local top fashion models will be showcasing works done by local designers.

Esplanade Presents Come Together features six different performances with a stellar line-up of talent (Nick Zavior, Amni Musfirah, Bloco Singapura, and NovoBloco) at the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre. Don’t forget to catch a series of three shows by musician Bennett Bay together with Jana Ann and Rachel at the Esplanade Concourse as well! Performances run from 6.15pm to 1am.

No New Year countdown is complete without a fireworks display, but if you prefer to go home before midnight and avoid the massive traffic afterwards, you’re in luck.

This year, there is not only a 7-minute Countdown fireworks at 12 midnight from around the bay, but also a 30-second teaser fireworks at 9.30pm. That’s right, you can catch a preview of the fireworks before midnight, so remember to grab your loved ones (and a camera) on New Year’s Eve!

Civic District
