Let’s admit it – many of us just stay at home on New Year’s Eve because we think there’s nothing to do, and the crowds are countdown parties can be, well, suffocating. However, you have no excuse this year, not with the exciting line-up hosted at Marina Bay and the Civic District!
Love eating good food? Want Insta-worthy photos? Need a family-friendly activity? All of these are possible at Marina Bay Singapore Countdown 2019. Overwhelmed by all the events and activities already? Don’t be – we’ve rounded up 8 of the best things you can do at Marina Bay Singapore Countdown 2019 to end 2018 with a bang:
1. Watch beautiful light projections adapted from students’ artwork
Get into the celebratory mood early – in fact, as early as 26 December, you can watch colourful and mesmerising light projections on the façades of key landmarks in the Marina Bay area. These projections are adapted from artworks created by students and beneficiaries of local schools and welfare organisations, as part of the Build a Dream initiative in partnership with the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre to support the less fortunate in fulfilling their dreams and personal development.
Catch the light projections at the following landmarks:
- The Fullerton Hotel Singapore: 15-minute intervals between 8pm and 10.30pm from 26 to 30 December 2018, and between 8pm and 11.30pm on New Year’s Eve.
- ArtScience Museum: between 8.15pm and 10.30pm from 29 to 31 December
- The Merlion: between 8pm and 10.30pm from 29 to 30 December 2018, and between 8pm and 11.30pm on New Year’s Eve.
Besides supporting these students’ artwork, you can do good by making a donation. Find more details about how to donate via the Marina Bay Singapore Countdown website.
2. Be dazzled by a sensory fireworks musical
STAR ISLAND Singapore Countdown Edition is a fireworks musical extravaganza that promises to wow you with an hour of performance acts by Taiko drummers, dancers, and fire performers, synchronised to fireworks, pyrotechnics, lights and 3D surround sound. You will also be involved in the show with a LED band that synchronises with the show elements – sweet!
For those with families, you’ll be happy to know as well that there is a Star Playground for Kids, featuring inflatable play zone for the young ones that will keep them entertained before the show starts.

3. Enjoy live performances by local talent
If you prefer to simply wind down with good music, head to The Promontory or Esplanade to view live performances by our talented local artistes.

In addition, Mediacorp artistes and local top fashion models will be showcasing works done by local designers.

4. Eat to your heart’s delight @ Food Truck Fest
No celebration is complete without good food, and surely no one will turn down this delicious way of bidding 2018 goodbye.
Enjoy an appetising line-up of modern local food at Food Truck Fest, where you can eat from 14 food trucks, caravans, and kombi vans. Some examples of local delights you can expect to look forward to include New Ubin Seafood and Fishball Story. We hope you are hungry already, because we sure are!

5. Catch the fireworks – twice!
No New Year countdown is complete without a fireworks display, but if you prefer to go home before midnight and avoid the massive traffic afterwards, you’re in luck.
This year, there is not only a 7-minute Countdown fireworks at 12 midnight from around the bay, but also a 30-second teaser fireworks at 9.30pm. That’s right, you can catch a preview of the fireworks before midnight, so remember to grab your loved ones (and a camera) on New Year’s Eve!
6. Watch a movie with your family under the stars
Not keen on the bustle in Marina Bay? Pack your picnic mats and baskets and head to Empress Lawn for a chill evening with your family at the Countdown Movie Screening with MovieMob. Watch back-to-back movie screenings of the Night at The Museum series, and indulge in the live band performances by local artistes from 7.30pm to 12.30am.
7. Shop till you drop
Old habits die hard, so surely you can shop just one last time before the year ends, right?
