Many of us probably have this on our bucket list: to experience a white Christmas with our loved ones. Unfortunately, with Singapore’s climate, it’s pretty impossible for us to experience snow. Thankfully, Capitol Singapore has made it possible, and we don’t even have to leave the country to enjoy it!
Capitol Singapore has life-sized snow domes, light shows, a Christmas market, and a skating rink for you to visit, play around, and capture photo memories at. And here’s the best part, general admission is free!
It’s snowing in Singapore!
The sheltered Outdoor Plaza at Capitol Singapore has been transformed into a Christmas wonderland, decorated with a huge singing Christmas tree and life-sized snow domes. The singing tree will belt out familiar Christmas tunes at fixed timings of 7.30pm and 8.30pm on 3 to 5, 10 to 12, and 15 to 26 December 2021. Join in the fun and embrace the Christmas spirit as you sing along to those tunes with your loved ones.
And from 7pm onwards every day, there will be snowfall, so make sure you take lots of photos for Instagram!
For more photo opportunities, head on over to the snow domes that are each decorated with a small Christmas tree and lots of presents set on a bed of soft, faux snow.
In order for everyone to have a fair chance at taking photos at this super Insta-worthy spot, there is an entry fee of S$5 for the snow dome. Once you’ve paid, you’ll be entitled to 30 minutes of playing and photo-taking. This will definitely be a hit with the kids as well.
Slots can be booked from 12pm to 9.30pm daily.
Christmas Market
Have a little shopping session as you browse through the various booths available at the Christmas Market. Spanning across the Outdoor Plaza and Arcade at The Capitol, expect to see food, tea, gift sets, jewellery, candles, and other lifestyle products that would make lovely gifts for your partner.
If you’re looking to plan a little activity for you and your loved one, you can also consider the DIY Kits for sale so that you can have a little bonding time with them after the event. Some of the kits include a DIY Candle Kit, a DIY Resin Coaster Kit, and a Holly Jolly Xmas Bake-A-Cake Kit.
Skating under the stars
Once you’re done shopping and taking photos at Capitol Singapore, move on over to CHIJMES because the night is still young. Just like Capitol Singapore, CHIJMES has also introduced a series of fun activities and light shows you can join in for a festive celebration.
Skate under the stars with your partner at the skating rink located at the CHIJMES Mini Lawn. It’s going to be really romantic, especially with the former chapel as your backdrop. Gaze into your partner’s eyes and enjoy the moment where it’s just the both of you under the moonlight.
Entry to the skating rink is at S$5 for 30 minutes, and skates are available for rent at S$5 for a pair. It’s best that you bring along your own pair of socks if you intend to skate, otherwise you would have to pay S$2.50 to purchase a new pair.
Not someone who skates often and afraid of falling? Cute seal-shaped skating guides are available to assist you at just S$5. But of course, your partner’s hands are free, so hold on tight if you don’t want to pay!
The skating rink will be open from 5pm to 9pm daily, from now till 2 January 2022. That’s plenty of time for you to plan a nice date with your loved one.
Light shows
Other than skating, you can also watch a light show called Projection Mapping where lights are projected on CHIJMES Hall. This light show will be Christmas-themed, and you’ll hear lovely music playing to accompany the show. This will occur every night from Mondays to Thursdays.
On Fridays and weekends, instead of the light show, it will be replaced with an interactive message dedication board that runs from 7.30pm to 10pm in 30-minute intervals. You can bring your loved one there and surprise them with your heartfelt messages.This surprise event will definitely make anyone swoon.
Capitol Singapore & CHIJMES Sidecar Civic District Tour
If you’re looking for something different, consider going on the Capitol Singapore and CHIJMES Sidecar Civic District Tour! This award-winning tour is bound to give you a great time, and you’ll be treated to notable sights along the way. You can even bring along your furkid and let them see the sights for free.
You can choose from two tour durations – 60 minutes (S$180) and 120 minutes (S$360) – and they run from 9am to 7pm (Mon – Sun).
