Surrey Hills Grocer at OHV: Food Review

Surrey Hills Grocer has curated an exquisite menu that promises a delightful gastronomic journey at OHV. Look forward to its first-ever open fire kitchen over charcoal embers – one of Australians’ most beloved cooking methods – and a customised ice cream truck that serves sweet scoops of freshly made Tasmanian ice cream.

Another highlight of the menu is the collaboration with Melbourne’s hatted Spanish restaurant, MoVida Original.

Helmed by Chef Frank Camorra, MoVida Original brings the essence of modern Spanish cuisine to Singapore. A selection of 10 of its most popular dishes is made available in Singapore through this collaboration.

AVENUE ONE tried the Vieira (Seared Shark Bay Scallop, Potato Hash Brown & Aji Amarillo Sauce), Paz Real (Cold smoked Kingfish, Pine Nut Sorbet & Pine Nut Gazpacho), and Pincho (Wagyu beef intercoastal skewer, grilled, Sherry beef, and Cippolini onion sauce).

Vieira

Of these, I really enjoyed the Vieira, which tasted like a Eggs Benedict with Scallops to me. The scallops were perfectly seared, and the sauce was addictive. The hash brown added a welcomed texture to the dish.

Paz Real

The Paz Real was an intriguing dish that was served in closed pots that opened up to smoke – a little fanfare for your meal. This had a distinctive smoked taste that I think will be loved by some diners and turn off others.

The Pincho was delectable and will certainly please any beef-lover.

Lobster Hash

If you’re looking forward to brunch food, I recommend the Lobster Hash. This gorgeous plate features soft scrambled eggs with succulent lobster – an indulgent treat that’s great for any time of the day.

Served with roasted potatoes and Brussel sprouts to offer earthy flavours, the dish is also topped with gruyere foam, ikura, and dill for additional textures and flavours.

Creamy Nori Pasta

More of a pasta person? Surrey Hills Grocer at OHV also has a few on its menu. We went with the Creamy Nori Pasta, which features Kyushu nori cooked in miso cream and served with real mentaiko.

This is a slightly heavy dish, so unless you really love creamy flavours, you may want to consider sharing this main with another companion.

Sloppy Tots

Like all Surrey Hills Grocer outlets, the OHV branch has its own rendition of tater tots – Sloppy Tots. This is essentially classic Sloppy Joe mixed with tater tots and topped with a generous amount of cheese. This indulgent dish is certainly made for sharing and is a great comfort food to snack on.

Churros Stack

For desserts, we tried the Churros Stack, which is fried till crisp and coated in cinnamon sugar. I like that it’s not too doughy and retains a nice aroma since it’s freshly fried. This is served with vanilla ice cream, almond crumble, and dark chocolate sauce that are just as addictive as the churros themselves.
