Order this cocktail and the bartender performs a magic trick for you

Rooftop bar Smoke & Mirrors has launched a new Signature Cocktail Menu, The Real Art of Drinking II. In it, there are 16 cocktails, each of them carefully curated with artistic inspirations found within the National Gallery, where the bar is located at.

The drinks are also inspired by the unique flavours of Singapore, making them the perfect drinks to have while you enjoy the scenic views of Marina Bay, music about the beauty of Singapore’s city-line.

Besides a beautiful visual presentation, you can also look forward to extra embellishments – order one of the drink in the menu and you’ll be presented with a magic trick! Read on to find out which one it is.

Highlights of The Real Art of Drinking Vol II

Monochrome

Monochrome (S$25++) may look dark and mysterious. but you’ll be surprised it tastes rich, creamy and sweet.

Inspired by the Black and White artwork by pioneer abstract artist Anthony Poon, this is prepared with bread cream and egg white to produce the black and white colours you see.

Lionheart

Lion Heart (S$27++) is inspired by Goh Beng Kwan’s Dotting the Eye, a 1991 artwork that features the iconic Chinese Lion Dance. Tip: hold it against light and let its shadow fall on the wall or table, and you’ll get a dramatic photo for Instagram.

Paying tribute to the dying art trade of handcrafted Lion Dance costumes, this is presented with a symbolic pattern etched on the clear glass.

This drink has a peppery and spicy taste, and is made with ingredients such as Osmanthus Sencha, Brass Lion Gin, and Hawthorn infused Vermouth.

Magic Queen

Magic Queen (S$29++) is the cocktail to order if you want a special performance. The bartender will personally present a mini magic trick for you!

He first brings a magic hat, along with an empty cup for your cocktail. Then – surprise! A small bottle containing the cocktail appears “magically” from the hat and he will pour it into your cup.

The magic trick isn’t just smoke and mirrors – pardon the pun. Magic Queen is inspired by Smiling Body by Pinaree Sanpitak, a mysterious yet humorous artwork that celebrates motherhood and womanhood. The magic trick is intended to allude to a similar sense of mystery.

Monkey God

You may know Two Gibbons Amidst Vines, an ink painting by Chen Wen Hzi in the 1980s. If not, just open your wallet and look for a Singapore 50-dollar note; the painting is featured on the back of the note.

The cocktail Monkey God (S$25++) by Smoke & Mirrors is inspired by this iconic masterpiece and is presented with an intricate artwork of Monkey God (Sun Wu Kong) on it.

This is a great thirst-quencher to go for if you like cocktails that are refreshing, sour, and cirtusy.

Cha Cha Duet

Ask for the Cha Cha Duet (S$26++) and you’ll be getting two drinks with one order – for you to enjoy both either on your own or to be shared with a companion.

This is because the cocktail is inspired by Tea Drinkers, a painting by Anita Magsaysay-Ho in 1957; tea is an important beverage present in both familial get-togethers and lone contemplation.

Both drinks feature matcha and celebrate the harmonious feelings of peace, relaxation, and cheerful enjoyment.

The clear cocktail is infused with Haku Vodka Matcha Distillate and Roku Gin, and has a sweet and sour taste, while the green cocktail tastes more earthy and is concocted with Chivas Mizunara Blended Scotch.
