Shake Shack partners Michelin-starred Candlenut to serve Buah Keluak Burger and Curry Fries – for one day only

Shake Shack is partnering with Malcolm Lee’s Michelin-starred Candlenut to serve the Buah Keluak Burger and Curry Fries this Saturday 5 November from 11am until sold out. These limited-time-only items are available in-store only at Shake Shack’s branch at Neil Road.

Shake Shack X Candle Nut Burger + Fries on Green

Candlenut is the only Michelin-starred Peranakan restaurant in the world and is Shake Shack Singapore’s first chef collaboration.

AVENUE ONE attended the media preview ahead of its official launch to try the burger and fries to tell you what we honestly think about them.

The Buah Keluak Burger (S$12.90) features a 100% all-natural Angus beef patty covered in buah keluak topped with Chef’s Mum’s Chicken Curry sauce, crisp cucumber, a fried egg, American cheese, diced pickles and ikan bilis sambal, all served on a potato bun toasted with
garlic butter.

Fun fact: this burger was originally created as a Candlenut staff meal, and is much talked about in the F&B industry.

If you enjoy the ShackBurger, you’ll be happy to know that the Buah Keluak Burger retains the juiciness and rich flavour of the beef patty that you love.

While Buah Keluak can be considered an acquired taste to some, it wasn’t overpowering in this burger. The fusion of Western flavours (American cheese and diced pickles) and Southeast Asian flavours (curry sauce and ikan bilis sambal) also surprisingly come together seamlessly, offering a medley of taste that’s very memorable.

The Curry Fries (S$5.20) are seasoned with a secret blend of curry powder and salt, and was created in tribute to one of Candlenut’s signature dishes, Mum’s Chicken Curry.

While they certainly aren’t as satisfying as a hot bowl of chicken curry, the curry fries are a great accompaniment to the Peranakan burger. While this isn’t an item that I will continue to order if it were permanently on the menu (I still prefer the original Shake Shack cheese fries!), but you undoubtedly need to have it if you’re already at the Neil Road outlet for the Buah Keluak Burger.

One thing to note, though, the curry powder stain your fingers and can be a little hard to remove even with soap and water, so you may want to consider picking up the fries with a fork or tissue if you prefer to keep your fingers clean.

Shake Shack Neil Road is located at 89 Neil Road, #01-01, Singapore 088849 and is open daily. Shake Shack x Candlenut Special is only available on 5 November 2022 (Saturday) from 11am until sold out.
