We Found a Japanese Collagen Fish Soup Concept at ARC and It’s a Hidden Gem We Recommend

Tucked away in ARC, a bustling business hub, is Sakana No Suppu, a kiosk concept that offers a few tables for dining in, though it primarily caters to the busy office crowd with its takeaway options.

Each bowl is served in a takeaway package no matter whether you’re dining in on taking away.

When AVENUE ONE visited, the space was packed, a testament to its popularity. We highly recommend arriving either before or after peak hours to avoid the crowd or simply opting for a takeaway to enjoy this comforting dish at your desk.

Despite the crowd, I have to comment that service is relatively fast and tables are cleared quite rapidly too, perhaps because the office workers there are trying to make the most of their lunchtime and prefer to finish their meals quickly.

It has a straightforward and simple menu.

Sakana No Suppu has a simple menu offering a few variants but all centred around the star of their concept: Japanese Collagen Fish Soup. A refreshing departure from the familiar Singaporean sliced fish soup found in hawker centres, the soup is more umami and richer in flavour. Like the local fish soup, Sakana No Suppu also uses fresh batang fish but it differs by pairing it with udon instead of thick bee hoon.

The udon noodles stood out – bouncy and free of that unpleasant floury aftertaste. While rice is also an option, we highly recommend going for the udon to complete the experience. Overall, the dish delivers a light yet satisfying meal.

What was also memorable was how the batang fish slices were impressively fresh and generous, making each spoonful a delight.

sakana no suppu gyoza

If you’re looking for something extra, the Signature Sakana & Gyoza Combo is a must-try. It adds juicy chicken gyoza into the soup, providing an additional layer of flavour and texture.

If you’re working at Arc or around the area, I highly recommend it for a quick and healthy lunch on a workday. But if you, like me, don’t work near there, I’d suggest visiting at night or on a Saturday, where the crowd is more manageable; I also see myself craving for it as a comfort food on a rainy day.

Sakana No Suppu is located at 460 Alexandra Road, #02-42, Alexandra Retail Centre (ARC), Singapore 119963. It is open daily except Sundays.
