Egg-shaped patisserie opens at Jewel Changi Airport serving Instagram-worthy sweets

Those who frequent social media platforms like Xiao Hong Shu will probably be familiar with Nesuto.

The six-year-old local patisserie along Tras Street that’s renowned for its exquisite Japanese and French-inspired cakes and confectioneries is well-loved on the app, thanks to its gorgeous sweet treat offerings.

The patisserie has announced the opening of its second outlet at Jewel Changi Airport, featuring a gorgeous space and will be introducing its latest creation: Chocolate Bon Bons.

In case you’re wondering, the name “Nesuto” is derived from the Japanese word for “nest”, which perfectly embodies the brand’s vision of creating a comfortable and inviting space that leaves a lasting impression, encouraging patrons to return, just like a bird to its nest.

Located on level 1 of Jewel Changi Airport, the store exterior features curved lines and soft edges reminiscent of an egg’s contours, paying subtle homage to the brand’s origins. The facade is meticulously hand-painted, stroke by stroke, to illustrate the organic and natural texture of an eggshell.

Departing from its conventional café design at Tras Street, the new 30-seater café now exudes a stylish and minimalistic post-modern interior that emanates a calming and homely atmosphere. With locally hand-made ceramic light fixtures, textured wall finishes, copper partitions, and natural light wood fittings, the multi-sensorial space envelops visitors in warm autumn-inspired hues, creating an intimate and cozy setting. Adding to the experience is the unique autumn forest scent, gently setting the mood for a sweet and indulgent journey.

An impressive centrepiece of the Jewel outlet is the bespoke monolith burl wood display that not only adds visual allure but also showcases an array of beautifully executed, palate-pleasing cakes and entremets. This pedestal serves as an invitation into a world of delectable sweets carefully curated and sure to please the taste buds.

I find the space with its warm lighting very welcoming. It’s certainly a great spot to hang out with friends or chill out solo.

Nesuto Jewel Changi Airport food review

In line with its egg-shaped store, which signifies new life, new flavours will be birthed at the Jewel outlet before becoming available at Tras Street.

Among the highlights are the new exclusive sliced cakes and the debut of the latest creations: the mouthwatering Chocolate Bon Bons.

Crafted from sustainably and ethically sourced chocolates, Nesuto has developed six unexpected flavour combinations, including Earl Grey & Bergamot, Sesame Rum, Passionfruit & Hazelnut, Raspberry & Lime, Rose & Pistachio, and Smoked Dark Chocolate & Caramel.

These treats are priced at S$3.86 per piece or S$23.14 for a box of six, making them an excellent gift option for chocolate-lovers.

My personal favourite is the Passionfruit & Hazelnut and Rose & Pistachio. These are crowd-pleasing, well-balanced flavours that I’m sure most people will enjoy. But if you’re looking for something that’s more unique outstanding, I recommend the Smoked Dark Chocolate & Caramel, which comes with a distinctive smoked flavour that you certainly won’t miss.

In addition to the exclusive chocolates, patrons can indulge in new sliced cake flavours, including the special creation inspired by co-founder and Executive Pastry Chef Alicia Wong’s winter memory of sipping on matcha latte and enjoying the aroma of roasted chestnut in Japan – Matcha Chestnut, priced at S$12.90.

This cake is also my personal favourite among the new items. Featuring rich and bittersweet matcha that is well-balanced against the fragrant roasted chestnut, this pairs perfectly with Japanese green tea for a comforting afternoon treat.

The Chocolate Orange (S$11.20) is another standout item to check out if you’re a chocolate-lover. Decadent and moist, this takes four days to put together, including a meticulous ageing process so flavours are intensified. I also love that the orange flavour is used to balance the overall palate, instead of overwhelm it. This pairs well with the Taiwanese zesty citrus tea sourced by Nesuto.

In fact, Nesuto offers a collection of unique tea and coffee offerings curated to pair well with its sweets, so feel free to ask the staff for their recommendations when you visit.

I also can’t write an article about Nesuto without mentioning its entremets, which will certainly catch your eyes when you enter the patisserie (and are often seen in the social media posts that feature them because of how gorgeous they look!)

Among them, I enjoyed the Queen Ispahan, a heart-shaped treat that is delicately scented with Rose, Lychee and Raspberry.

Besides this, the Poire, a pear dessert also won my favour. This is dressed with clovers and its botanical-inspired look is aligned with the refreshing flavour it comes with, thanks to the inclusion of fresh pear chunks enhanced with almond liqueur.

Nesuto is now open at 78 Airport Boulevard, #01-236 & 237 Jewel Changi Airport, Singapore 819666 from 11am to 10pm daily. All prices stated are before GST.
