Peanut, butter, and fruit jam with bread may sound good once in a while for breakfast, but having this every day for breakfast may get boring fast.
You have two options: make your breakfast the previous night (we’ve got overnight breakfast recipes!) or create these beautiful “flower” sandwiches in the morning. They aren’t just photogenic, but are also incredibly nutritious and delicious. Great for the tummy, good for the ‘gram – so why not!
As beautiful as they are delicious to eat, you’ll only need three or four ingredients and a few minutes of your time to make these flower sandwiches. Plus, you’ll get to use up all the fruit sitting at home too!
Originating from Japan, these sandwiches consist of just bread, whipped cream, and all kinds of fruit. Although it may take a bit of practice and trail and error to make the perfect one like those above, it’ll be so worth it.
Here’s what you’ll need to make flower sandwiches
- White bread, preferably with the skin removed
- Whipped cream
- Fruits that are smaller in size, or that can be cut into smaller pieces
- Cling wrap
Directions to make flower sandwiches
- Cut your desired fruits into smaller pieces, so that it’s easier to fit between the slices of bread. Try cutting grapes in half, or pieces out of the pointer side of strawberries to create “tulips”. You can even use cookie cutters to create interesting shapes like in the video below!
- Spread a layer cream on one slice of bread.
- Arrange the fruits along the diagonal where you’re going to cut. To stack fruits on top of one another, add a thinner layer of cream first, then add the fruit. (Tip: Picture the fruits in cross-section first! You can use grapes, mangoes, mandarins, and strawberries for the flowers, and thin strips of kiwi for the stems and leaves.)
- Add more cream on top of the arrangement, and place the other slice of bread on top.
- Firmly wrap in cling wrap and store in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes to set the fruits in place.
- Cut along the diagonal and enjoy!
