Gyoza-San Review: Halal-Certified Gyozas in Surprising but Delectable Flavours

You’ve probably tried traditional Japanese gyoza. But if you think Gyoza-San is going to be your average gyoza joint, you’ll be in for a huge surprise..

At Gyoza-San, tradition gets a delicious remix, as it offers gyoza in a kaleidoscope of flavours that surprise your taste buds pleasantly.

Led by the visionary Wilman Ng, whose career in the F&B industry spans over three decades, this gastronomic gem innovates with a specially designed kitchen and use of custom equipment that allow it to deliver innovative flavours with speed.

But how does it fare in the taste department? AVENUE ONE visited its Marina One outlet and tried a few of items on its menu.

Gyoza-San Review: How Are the Gyozas?

Gyoza-San Original

The Gyoza San Original (S$5.90 for six pieces) is a classic, a comforting and familiar flavour you can return to again and again.

For the spice enthusiasts, the Tom Yam Kung Gyoza (S$7.50 for six pieces) and Mala Gyoza (S$6.90 for six pieces) pack a serious punch.

The Tom Yam Kung delivers a kick of heat with its prawn and chicken filling, perfectly complemented by its tangy sauce. The Mala Gyoza isn’t for the faint of heart, but the explosion of flavours from the secret blend of spices, chicken, and corn kernels is a must-try for heat-seekers.

The SG Chilli Crab Gyoza (S$7.50 for six pieces) is a bestseller and I’m not surprised why. A true homage to Singapore’s culinary heritage, this is made with a blend of real crab meat, prawns, and chicken, and transports you straight to your favourite seafood restaurant.

Even the unadventurous will find something to love. The Special Unagi Gyoza (S$7.50 for six pieces) surprised me, a non-huge-unagi-fan, with its moist and delectable filling and a sweet sauce that left me wanting more.

Beyond the Gyoza: Scrumptious Bentos That Satisfy

Special Unagi/Yakiniku Bento Combo

Gyoza-San doesn’t stop at just gyoza. Their bento sets are a fantastic option for a complete and satisfying meal. Each bento set comes with three Original Gyozas and one to two proteins.

The Special Unagi/Yakiniku Combo (S$14.50) is my personal favourite, offering excellent value for money with its generous portion and restaurant-quality flavours.

If you’re craving for a taste of Singapore, the Chilli Crab Bento (S$13.90) is a dream come true. Real crab meat, an onsen egg, and their signature Chilli Crab sauce drench the gyoza, creating a unique and delicious experience.
