Enjoy Authentic German Fare This Oktoberfest As This Buffet Restaurant Rolls Out a Special Menu

Pan Pacific Singapore’s Edge restaurant has always impressed with its diverse buffet offerings, but their “Tastes of Germany” for Oktoberfest truly brings a delightful taste of Germany to Singapore.

Running from Thursdays to Saturdays until 26 October 2024, this celebration features a spread of authentic German cuisine, crafted by Executive Chef Andy Oh and Master Butcher Chef Haiko Mayer, which the AVENUE ONE team had the pleasure of sampling.

I started with the Bavarian Beer Cheese Soup, a hearty dish with just the right amount of richness. The addition of pretzels and bacon provided the perfect complement, adding a satisfying texture and smoky depth.

The Bratkartoffeln (pan-fried potatoes with bacon and onions) was another highlight — crispy and flavourful, a comforting side that paired beautifully with the tender Bavarian Pork Knuckle. The pork, with its crispy crackling, was an absolute standout, juicy and perfectly seasoned.

Meanwhile, the Slow-cooked Lamb Sauerbraten was meltingly soft, with the tangy marinade adding a complex depth that lingered pleasantly on the palate.

As someone who appreciates quality charcuterie, I was particularly eager to try the selection from Chef Haiko Mayer, and it did not disappoint.

The Grilled Veal Bratwurst was succulent and well-seasoned, while the Cheese Kransky had a nice, sharp bite from the cheese. The Thuringer Snail Sausage, though unusual, was incredibly flavourful, and the Dry-cured Black Forest Ham was simply exquisite — rich, savoury, and delicately cured.

Visit on a Thursday or a Friday, and you’ll have the opportunity to meet Chef Haiko during the dinner service added an extra layer of enjoyment, as he shared his passion and knowledge of German butchery, giving even more context to the delicious food on offer.

For dessert, I couldn’t resist sampling the Apple Strudel and the Black Forest Cake, both of which were indulgent without being too sweet. The strudel’s flaky pastry and spiced apple filling hit all the right notes, while the Black Forest Cake was a classic treat, light yet satisfyingly chocolatey, with just the right amount of cream.

To top off the experience, you can consider pairing the meal with The Portman Lager, brewed exclusively for Pan Pacific Singapore by Paulaner Bräuhaus Singapore. Look forward to a lager that’s crisp and full-bodied, with a subtle sweetness that will complement the rich German dishes wonderfully.

Even with all these German delights, Edge hasn’t forgotten its international buffet roots. If you feel like switching it up, there are still dishes from Singaporean, Indian, Chinese, and Japanese cuisines to sample.
