East Treasure Speciality Prawn Noodle review: Trying it out at its latest myVillage outlet

I have a confession to make and I think you’re not going to like it.

I’ve never really liked prawn noodles. I’ve tried a number of them around Singapore and while I enjoy the sweetness of the prawn broth, the broth also comes with that “seafood stench” that I detest. (Ok, I know there are people who enjoy that taste, but it’s just not for me.)

When myVillage invited us to visit the newly opened East Treasure Specialty Prawn Noodle at the Serangoon Gardens mall, I was hesitant at first. But I heard that it is one of Singapore’s top-rated prawn noodle eateries, so I decided that I had to take the plunge and I find out if it would present a different experience.

About East Treasure Speciality Prawn Noodle

First, a little about East Treasure Speciality Prawn Noodle.

First opened in Joo Chiat, the eatery has a strong following and is known for its pocket-friendly, high-quality prawn noodles. Prices start from only S$5.80. Its opening at myVillage is its third outlet in Singapore.

East Treasure Speciality Prawn Noodle is one of the latest brands developed by Astons F&B Group. The R&D team took an entire year to perfect the recipe and menu.

What’s worth mentioning is that, instead of purchasing the recipe for the prawn broth from anyone, it is painstakingly developed in-house by the Aston team, made up by veteran chefs.

East Treasure Speciality Prawn Noodle @ myVillage review

AVENUE ONE arrived at around 11.30am for lunch, and we noticed that business was brisk. By 12.30pm, practically every table was taken up. Thankfully, service was quick so tables turned over relatively quickly too. This observation was a good sign. For an outlet that has just opened in September (about a month ago), the crowd it attracted told me that the food must be good.

We were recommended the Signature Supreme Big Prawn Noodle (S$12.50).

This was served with Sea Tiger Prawns, pork belly slices, pork rib, pork tail, beansprouts, and Kang Kong. In other words, everything that is known for making broth that taste robust and sweet.

And it didn’t disappoint.

The broth is certainly the best prawn broth I have ever had – it carries sweetness that only a long simmer with fresh ingredients can produce, and without the “stench” that I detest.

It was so rich and gratifying, I finished the soup – something that I’ve never done before for prawn noodles.

If you’re looking for something different, consider the Penang Prawn Noodle (S$10). This adds assam to the broth and also features a hard-boiled egg.

The spice in the broth uplifted the taste to made it less cloying. However, I wish there were a little more assam to give it more kick. The hard-boiled egg was a nice touch; it tasted particularly good as the yolk soaked up the broth and melted in the mouth quickly.

Between the two, my vote goes to the Signature Supreme Big Prawn Noodle. The serving size and amount of ingredients were generous and the broth was unforgettable.

As someone who has never really enjoyed prawn noodles, I’m sure I’m going to surprise those who know me when I say that the Signature Supreme Big Prawn Noodle at East Treasure Speciality Prawn Noodle has made it to my list of food recommendations. I’d definitely pop by again for more.

East Treasure Speciality Prawn Noodle has opened its newest outlet at  myVillage at Serangoon Garden, 1 Maju Avenue, Singapore 556679. It is open daily from 8am to 10pm.
