26 restaurants to feast at this Chinese New Year for your reunion dinner in 2021

It sure feels like Christmas came and went, but now that we’ll soon be rolling into the second month of the year, it’s time to start looking for restaurants to book your upcoming Chinese New Year reunion dinners. After all, CNY falls on the 12th and 13th February this year, so time’s a tickin’!

We’ve rounded up 25 Chinese New Year reunion dinner restaurants you can visit in 2021 to enjoy great food and usher in the niu (Chinese for ox) year with your loved ones! Think sumptuous set meals, indulgent and authentic Chinese dishes…

Note: While we’ve already moved into Phase 3 and dining group sizes have increased from the initial five persons, do bear in mind while you’re making your reservation that each table has a limit of 8 persons.

1. Park Hotel Clarke Quay

Usher in the Year of the Ox with your loved ones at Park Hotel Clarke Quay with four set menus (ranging from six to eight courses, prices start from S$388 to S$768) to choose from; available from 29 January to 26 February 2021.

Prosperity Tuna Yu Sheng Platter

The hotel restaurant’s refreshing Prosperity Tuna Yu Sheng Platter features an array of auspicious ingredients such as yellowfin tuna slices prepared tataki style, coated in sesame seeds and seaweed flakes, and paired with a vibrant medley of white and green radish and carrot, purple cabbage, pickled vegetables, and crowned with torch ginger flower and chiffonade of kaffir lime leaves.

When AVENUE ONE visited, we were pleased by how refreshing the yu sheng tasted compared to many other versions we’ve tried. Thanks to the special plum sauce created by the hotel’s chef, the yusheng tasted light and refreshing, serving as a great appetiser that whets your palate for more.

Steamed Red Garoupa with Yellow Bean Paste (left), and Salted Egg Yolk Golden Tiger Prawn (right)

The line-up of exciting dishes includes the returning favourite Steamed Red Garoupa with Yellow Bean Paste, Superior Braised Fish Maw with Crabmeat and Homemade Stuffed Crab Claw, Salted Egg Yolk Golden Tiger Prawn, and more. These traditional dishes don’t try too hard to be novel, but deliver great tastes that everybody in the family is going to love.

While the menu is generally traditional, we were surprised that something sets the CNY menu at Park Hotel apart: their dessert. Conclude your meal with the Crispy Durian dessert, a deep-fried parcel that conceals a toothsome durian purée blended with gula melaka and coconut milk. It reminds us of goreng pisang but swap the banana puree for durian’s. This is a real treat that durian-lovers are going to love.

3. Hard Rock Cafe

Prosperity Salmon Yu Sheng Salad

Though you’ll have to don your masks when you’re tossing your yusheng, it’s well worth it when you’re about to indulge in Hard Rock Cafe’s Prosperity Salmon Yu Sheng Salad (S$26.95) – a healthier, modern take on the traditional dish. Smoked Norwegian salmon are stacked on a heap of fresh baby spinach, beetroot, carrot, radish, and fruits, served with a generous amount of golden tangerine dressing and cornflakes for sweetness and crunch.

Braised Ox Cheek with Gold Flakes & Red Wine Sauce

Next up, savour the Braised Ox Cheek with Gold Flakes & Red Wine Sauce (S$39.95). They weren’t kidding when they said the ox cheek was fork-tender. It slices through easily and practically melts in your mouth.

Topped with baby carrots, asparagus, mashed potatoes, and fried lotus root, this dish will keep your belly full. Not to mention, there are bits of gold flakes to amp up the luxe factor. For those who are worried about the red wine sauce, it’s actually a reduction that’s cooked all the way through, so you’ll barely notice it.

Roasted Duck Leg with Longevity Noodles

If you prefer a lighter meal, try the Roasted Duck Leg with Longevity Noodles (S$35.95). The succulent yet crispy confit duck is roasted with a warming blend of 13 spices and herbs, served with a side of cherry tomatoes and asparagus. Its longevity noodles are a hit too – they’re immersed in a savoury ginseng herbal soup that’s fragrant and brimming with flavour.

Golden Fried Milk Fritter with Fresh Strawberry Compote

No meal is complete without dessert, which is why Hard Rock Cafe has created the Golden Fried Milk Fritter with Fresh Strawberry Compote (S$14.95). Fried and crispy on the outside, the coconut-flavoured milk fritter is a decadent way to end a meal.

Left to right: Passionfruit Blossom, Lizhi Lemonade, Sparkling Fortune, Mandarin Mule

Fancy a tipple or two? How about four? Hard Rock Cafe concocted four festive cocktails to ring in the Lunar New Year. If you like something refreshing and sweet, sip on the Sparkling Fortune (S$18.95), made with prosecco, strawberry puree, homemade lemonade, and topped off with a fresh strawberry. You can also opt for the Lizhi Lemonade (S$22.95), which has Stolichnaya vodka, whiskey, lime cordial, lychee juice, and lemonade topped with red wine.

There’s also the Passionfruit Blossom (S$23.95), a fruity cocktail made with Jim Beam bourbon, triple sec orange liqueur, freshly squeezed lime juice, and refreshing passionfruit puree served with a fortune cookie. Or, try our favourite, the Mandarin Mule (S$23.95). Absolut mandarin vodka is blended with Grand Marnier, orange juice, and topped with ginger beer.
