Kam Heong Crab Review

During AVENUE ONE’s visit in September, we were tried the Kam Heong Crab, a dish that effortlessly captures the essence of Singapore’s culinary heritage.

The crabs were impeccably cooked, with the flesh tender and brimming with flavour. What truly elevated the experience was the sauce — an aromatic blend of bird’s eye chillies, fragrant curry leaves, and crispy dried shrimp. The balance of spicy heat and savoury richness was nothing short of spectacular.

At S$168 for a portion weighing approximately 1.5kg, this indulgent meal comfortably serves two to three guests. If you’re visiting in September, Chatterbox offers a special drinks promotion during the Grand Prix season in September, with three alcoholic beverages for S$36.

If you’re visiting in October for the Black Pepper Crab, you’ll be able to pair it with the Sea Perch with Homemade Soy Sauce for S$39 per portion.

Other Dishes to Try

While the Kam Heong Crab delivered a flavour-packed punch, we couldn’t visit Chatterbox without trying their famed Chicken Rice (S$25 for a set). This dish has been synonymous with Chatterbox for over 50 years, and after one bite, it’s easy to see why.

Made from free-range chickens specially reared for 60 days — 15 days longer than usual — the meat is plumper, juicier, and incredibly tender. Steamed slowly in a fragrant stock, the chicken retains all its natural flavours, sealed in through a delicate cooling process. Every bite was a reminder of why this dish has remained a beloved staple on the menu for decades.

To add a touch of luxury to our meal, we also sampled the Lobster Laksa (S$38), an elevated version of the classic local dish.

Packed with Boston lobster, quail eggs, thick vermicelli noodles, fish cake, and dried beancurd, this laksa was an indulgent bowl of comfort. The rich coconut broth, fragrant with spices and fresh coconut milk, provided a satisfying base that balanced creaminess and spice to perfection. It’s a dish that redefines laksa with a modern, indulgent twist.

No meal is complete without dessert, and at Chatterbox, the Pandan Cake with Gelato (S$15) is a must-try.

The light, fluffy pandan chiffon cake was paired beautifully with homemade soy pandan gelato, all topped off with a delightful coconut crumble for added texture. The combination was refreshing and light, a perfect way to end a rich and indulgent meal.

Note: The above-mentioned items are also available as part of its set menu.
