These cakes look like they came out from a comic strip, and it’s the latest trend that we’re in love with

If you’ve always wondered what it’d be like to be in a comic strip, you might actually be able to experience that for yourself, right here in Singapore. Well, we’re not talking about turning yourself into a webtoon character using the filters on Instagram, but rather, two-dimensional food. Or at least, food that looks two-dimensional.

There is a new trend in town and it’s all about comic cakes. That’s right, we’re talking about cakes that look like they came out from a comic strip.

This cake shop in particular has gained popularity over its new offering, and we can’t get enough of it!

Cake Spade’s Comic Cake

Cake Spade has recently introduced Comic Cake (S$9.80) to its menu, and the cake features soft vanilla angelfood cake with layers of Chantilly cream, mangoes, and strawberries in between, resulting in a decadent treat. The exterior of the cake is then outlined with black brush strokes of chocolate to give off the illusion of it being two-dimensional.

This looks so visually pleasing that we can already foresee the number of people who will visit just to have this cake. We bet your Instagram feed will be flooded with pictures of this!

As Cake Spade also anticipates the Comic Cake to be highly popular, it’s best that you give them a call at 6444 3868 or WhatsApp them at 8310 8330 to reserve a slice for yourself before heading down. This way, you can avoid disappointment just in case they sell out early.

You can choose to enjoy the cakes within the cafe space itself and take photos with the backdrop of the cafe’s interior, or order whole cakes to bring home to enjoy with your family.

There are a total of three sizes for whole cakes: six-inch (S$78), seven-inch (S$88), and eight-inch (S$98). Unlike the individual slices, you will get to choose the flavours if you purchase a whole cake. The flavours include Mangoes and Strawberries, Strawberry Shortcake, Mango Charlotte Yogurt, Lychee Rose, and Victoria Sponge.

Note that Cake Spade requires an advance order of two to three working days if you’re looking to purchase a whole cake.

No longer at 83 Tanjong Pagar

Those familiar with Cake Spade will know that the cafe is housed in an iconic pink shophouse at 83 Tanjong Pagar.

However, as of 16 April, Cake Spade has closed its 83 Tanjong Pagar outlet and is currently in the midst of moving its operations to a larger flagship store at 283 South Bridge Road, Singapore 058832. It will officially open for business on 23 April. Don’t worry, the Comic Cake will still be available for purchase all the way up till the end of May.

So if you’re looking to visit, do be sure to head to its new location from 23 April onwards!
