When Violet Oon launches a new dining concept, it’s almost guaranteed that queues will form before the doors even open. Such was the case on 29 September, when Bibik Violet – the Violet Oon Group’s latest venture – welcomed its first diners to a full house by noon.
While the group’s flagship restaurants like National Kitchen and Violet Oon Singapore are known for their elegant, polished dining experiences, Bibik Violet takes a more approachable turn. This is Peranakan food reimagined for the everyday table; unpretentious, flavourful, and deeply comforting.
Familiar Favourites, Lovingly Executed
The menu reads like a greatest-hits list of local classics, but each dish bears the group’s signature finesse.
The Laksa arrives aromatic and rich, with a broth that’s full-bodied yet balanced. I love that it’s not overly heavy and is generously topped with prawns and tau pok.
The Nasi Lemak Ayam Berempah impresses with fragrant coconut rice and perfectly spiced fried chicken, crisp on the outside and juicy within. It’s the kind of dish that wins you over instantly.
Families will appreciate the Chicken Macaroni Soup, a gentle, comforting bowl that’s ideal for children or anyone seeking a lighter option. It is also one of the few options that aren’t spicy.
Then there’s the Sambal Lady Fingers, which is bright, tangy, and refreshing, reminiscent of achar. It cuts beautifully through the richness of the other dishes, making it a great starter for sharing.

The Curry Chicken leans aromatic rather than fiery, pairing wonderfully with white rice. Meanwhile, the Kueh Pie Tee adds a playful element to the meal, featuring crisp shells, generous filling, and the fun of assembling it yourself.

And of course, Satay lovers won’t be disappointed. Each skewer is perfectly grilled, tender with just the right char, served with a nutty, fragrant sauce that has diners (myself included) going back for seconds.

Desserts are made fresh daily, and though I was too early for the kueh selection, the Sugee Cake and Pulut Hitam Tart were delightful stand-ins. The former was particularly satisfying, as it is moist, buttery, and perfumed with almond, offering comfort in every bite.
Bibik Violet is located at 28 Orchard Road, #01-05 Temasek Shophouse, Singapore 238832. It is opened on weekdays from 8am to 9.30pm and on weekends from 10am to 9.30pm.
