The Starbucks Reserve Roastery Tokyo opens its first outlet in Japan today (28 Feb), featuring a tea bar and cocktail bar. The four storey roastery surrounded by glass walls and terrace floors, sits along Meguro River, along snaking rows of cherry blossom trees.
Located in the uptown neighbourhood, Nakameguro, the roaster is the Fifth store internationally. This Tokyo outlet sits in a 32,000 square feet (2,966 sq. meters) building, beating the Shanghai store to be the biggest Starbucks in the world. The building, looking like a modern cathedral from the outside, is designed by Kengo Kuma, the Japanese architect behind the main host stadium for Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Each floor has its own theme. On the first floor, we have the Starbucks Reserve, the Main Bar where you get your cuppa. You’ll be greeted by a four-storey tall blush-tinted copper cask that goes all the way up to the fourth storey. Speckled with hand-crafted copper cherry blossoms, the cask is a tribute to the cherry blossom trees along Meguro River. These copper cherry blossoms even change colour throughout the day according to light!
Get original Reserve drinks such as the Barrel-Aged Cold Brew or go for pastries from Starbucks’ partner baker, Princi. There’s also a merch area that sells exclusive mugs, cups, coffee grinders, stationery, and accessories.
Heading on the second floor, there’s the Teavana Bar that, obviously, serves tea. Paying homage to the Japanese tea culture, a range of exclusive tea and desserts are served in Japanese wooden plating.
On the third for is Starbucks Japan’s first cocktail bar, Arriviamo. Apart from your usual beers and wines, be sure to check out the coffee and tea-inspired cocktails like the Nakameguro Espresso Martini, a mix of with chestnut liqueur, creme de cacao and espresso. Their current seasonal menu, Spring Shower Sakura Cocktails, are garnished with cherry blossom petals in the cocktail glasses, super pretty!
The top floor is an open-space called the AMU Inspiration Lounge. With Starbucks Reserve Roastery Tokyo working to be the chain’s first certified Specialty Coffee Association location, this lounge will be used for events, seminars and barista training for coffee professionals.
We’re expecting this Starbucks outlet to be the next hippest place to visit in Tokyo, with its quaint and breath-taking view, it’s sure worth a visit.
Starbucks Reserve Roastery Tokyo is located at 2-19-23 Aobadai, Meguro-ku, Tokyo and it opens from 7am to 11pm daily.
