PAZZION Café review: Can a shoe retailer prepare good food too?

PAZZION is a well-known footwear retailer and the brand has recently made its first foray into the F&B space, with the opening of a cafe at Jewel Changi Airport.

pazzion-cafe-review-storeLocated right next to a PAZZION footwear boutique, PAZZION Café serves as as resting spot for PAZZION footwear customers but is also open to the rest of the public.

We associate the PAZZION brand so strongly with footwear, it was challenging for us to imagine them being able to prepare a good cuppa and delectable food. But seeing is believing – we knew we needed to head down and have a taste before making a judgement on whether this diversification works for them.

PAZZION Café review: The ambience

The cafe gives off an elegant vibe and is certainly Instagram-worthy. The space features vintage-looking props such as a typewriter, an antique-style telephone, and a sewing machine that make every turn a good spot for photos.

There are more seating outside the cafe, and which offer a spectacular view of the iconic Rain Vortex. Even if you’re there alone, we’re pretty sure you’re going to enjoy chilling out over a cup of coffee and simply taking in the beautiful cascading waterfall.

PAZZION Café review: The food

The cafe offers a variety of food items on the menu, including salad and grain bowls, sandwiches, pasta, and eggs. Prices for their main courses range between SGD16 and SGD22.

Drinks offering includes alcoholic beverages (craft beer, house pour, reds and whites), as well as cold brews, cold pressed juice, kombucha, and smoothies.

If you’re an egg-lover and can’t resist bacon that’s fried to crispy perfection, try the Stuffed and Flaky (SGD16). This features a soft scrambled egg that’s creamy and moist, served on top of a flaky croissant. It also comes with a generous spread of avocado and crispy bacon.

The health-conscious will love the Quinoa Bowl (SGD18), a wholesome quinoa dish that’s served with lightly grilled salmon, sliced avocado, and topped off with a poached egg.

For pastas, the Cold Truffle Pasta (SGD18) appears to be a crowd-pleaser and we recommend it if you’re looking for something light. This features the angelhair, served with ebiko, scallop and nori, as well as a generous amount of truffle oil that hits your nose even before it reaches your table.

But if you prefer something more substantial, you’ll probably enjoy the King Prawn Linguine (SGD22). It comes with two pieces of King Prawn, doused in a creamy garlic butter sauce that’s very indulgent.

A surprising favourite was the Baked Eggs (SGD16), served with tomato chicken con carne and sourdough. The con carne gives the dish just a touch of heat and kick, but don’t worry, we didn’t find it too spicy. In fact, we enjoyed the stew so much, we just want to dip everything in it.

There’s only one burger on the menu, but burger-lovers will be glad that it’s a hearty treat. The B.E.L.T Burger (SGD16) comes with two overeasy eggs, lightly grilled bacon strips, and a generous amount of fresh lettuce and tomatoes. These goodies are wedged between soft buttery broiche buns and drizzled with a specially made cheese sauce.

And don’t forget to end your meal on a sweet note with a dessert. There are only two desserts (French Toast and Souffle) on the menu and we tried the French Toast (SGD17). The brioche toast is served with poached pear, caramelised banana, and anglaise sauce, and you can choose to add on a scoop of vanilla ice-cream (add SGD3). The dessert is actually quite filling and we think that it’s great for sharing and is something to consider ordering if you’re simply chilling out at the cafe in between meals.

But if you prefer something lighter or just need some coffee to perk yourself up, then we recommend that you try the Affogato (SGD7), which gives you the best of both worlds – a sugar rush and a caffeine fix.

PAZZION Café says that they will continue to expand and improve their menu and we can expect more dishes to be introduced.

pazzion-cafe-review-mocktail

In celebration of Singapore’s 54th birthday, they have also launched a limited edition mocktail called Sunny Island (SGD8), which is concocted with strawberry puree, a dash of fresh milk, soda water, a shot of lychee syrup, and lychee fruit. This refreshing drink is available from now till 31 August. If you purchase any mains, you’ll be able to get this mocktail at SGD5.40.
