Sumptuous set meals, indulgent and authentic Chinese dishes are probably aplenty at your upcoming reunion dinner with the loved ones, but if your taste buds are craving for some comfort food but with a twist instead, eat your way to an Ox-picious new year with Texas Chicken’s all-new HAE-pic Chinese New Year menu!

Available from 28 January to 3 March, the CNY menu stars the golden-orange Hae Bee Hiam Chicken, which sees 100% fresh fried chicken generously coated with spicy dried shrimp sambal and crispy golden breadcrumbs to give it a fragrant and umami flavour with an addictive crunch.

AVENUE ONE tries Texas Chicken’s Hae-pic Chinese New Year menu

Ahead of the official launch, the AVENUE ONE team was invited to sample the Hae-pic Chinese New Year offerings at Texas Chicken’s Gardens By The Bay outlet.

We were told that like all other limited-edition flavours created by Texas Chicken, the Hae Bee Hiam variant uses only 100% fresh chicken that are delivered daily to the restaurants all around Singapore, where they are then coated with orange breadcrumbs and a special hae bee hiam (spicy dried shrimp sambal) recipe made with dried shrimps that are fried until fragrant with belacan, shallots, and other spices.

Before they are served, more crispy orange breadcrumbs are sprinkled onto the fried chicken pieces to enhance the rich aroma and give it a nice golden-orange colour that lets you enjoy a satisfying crunch with every bite.

Initially, we were wary that the hae bee hiam seasoning may be too pungent for our taste buds (as some recipes tend to be that way) but all our worries were put to rest the moment we took the first bite.

The well-balanced combination of umami taste and subtle spiciness beautifully complements the natural flavour of the tender fresh chicken, and it just makes you want to go back for more after each bite.

As you sink your teeth into the succulent, tantalising chicken, you’ll certainly relish in the glorious sight of abundant golden-orange breadcrumbs falling onto your plate – a symbolism of the Chinese phrase “遍地黄金”, which translates to bountiful wealth and good fortune everywhere.

In the spirit of bringing even more huat to diners this Chinese New Year, Texas Chicken also dishes out the new Pineapple Butter Biscuit, which is the eatery’s own rendition of the everyone’s favourite pineapple tarts.

As usual, the soft and fluffy biscuits are baked daily to ensure maximum freshness but just for the Year of the Ox, these yummy treats are glazed with pineapple jam to give just the right amount of sweetness and tanginess. For us, it just complemented the meal so beautifully together with the refreshing Sjora Mango Peach drink.
