Look good and do good with SocietyA’s charity grab bags that support Singapore Council of Women’s Organisation

From 10 August to 12 September, you can do your part and support by purchasing a grab bag from SocietyA, where net proceeds will be donated.
In case you’re not aware, SCWO’s Star Shelter is a safe temporary refuge for women and their children who are victims of family violence regardless of race, language, creed or religion. Apart from providing meals, lodging, and counselling services, Star Shelter also provides financial aid to assist these women to pay for transport expenses while looking for employment as well as a no-interest home loan, which enables them to set up new homes.
Based on an article published by The Straits Times on 21 Jan 2021, there was a 10 per cent rise in cases of family violence every month between April 2020 and December 2020 and it was accrued to the longer hours that people spent at home, compared to pre-pandemic days. As a result, this has led to the requirement for more resources for SCWO to provide support for abused women and their children – the priority being to expand the Star Shelter.
All net proceeds will be donated to expand the shelter, provide financial assistance and therapy programmes for the affected women to heal from their trauma, and conduct employability enhancement workshops to upskill the survivors’ employability.
