Surrey Hills Grocer review

AVENUE ONE visited Surrey Hills Deli and here are our top picks.

Hendurance

For something that we’re sure most people will enjoy, go for the classic Hendurance (S$18). This features white sourdough layered with GG™ French Poulet, romaine lettuce, roasted sweet potato, crispy bacon, fried Nuyolk egg, shaved parmigiano, cheddar cheese, mustard butter, and drenched in Caesar dressing. This is kind of like a deconstructed Caesar salad but a lot more satisfying because of the bread.

This seems to be the item that most people ordered at the media preview and also enjoy the most. If you really have no idea what you’d like to get when you’re at Surrey Hills Deli, we certainly recommend going for this.

Avo-cardio

Another crowd-pleaser is the Avo-cardio (S$20), which is made up of white sourdough loaded with avocados and smoked turkey ham, topped with brie, alfalfa, cranberry jam, cabbage chiffonade, and a drizzle of sriracha aioli. This is a filling sandwich that we think will be great as post-gym fuel.

Truffle Up

For something more decadent, Truffle Up (S$22) will make a memorable choice. This is stacked with black forest ham, accompanied with caramelised onion and black truffle mayo, triple cheese bechamel, and pommery mustard dressings. We like that the truffle flavour is nuanced and complemented the rest of the ingredients well.

Other sandwich options include the vegan Energise To-ma-toes (S$16), ciabatta packed with marinated momotaro tomato, provolone cheese, burrata, basil pesto and laced with caramelised onion and arugula; Oppor-tuna-ty (S$18), light rye perfectly lined with tuna salad, pickled jalapeño, aged gouda, aged cheddar and charred pepper; Let’s Pull Through (S$20), ciabatta stacked with 36-hours pulled pork shoulder and elevated with green mango slaw, pickle, fresh greens and mustard mayo; Spam the Positivity (S$19), white sourdough filled with Gochujang-glazed spam, fried Nuyolk egg, aged cheddar, kimchi, caramelised onion, topped with mayo and finished with a sprinkle of nori flake; and Seize the Moo-ment (S$24), light rye bread assembled with house pastrami, fried Nuyolk egg, dill pickle, sauerkraut, burrata, cheddar cheese, complete with mustard mayo and burger sauce.

Grilled Chicken Pesto

While sandwiches are a huge highlight at Surrey Hill Deli, it also offers a variety of “grab-and-go” salad bowls at its mini grocer that are ideal for those who are time-starved and want a wholesome meal that’s tasty.

Apart from that, you’ll also find these at the mini grocer: fresh fruit bowls, antipasto platter (a selection of cold and cured meats, cheese, olives, and assorted vegetables), loaded hummus, gourmet yoghurt parfait with granola, Australian dairy, alcohol, and more.

In addition, Surrey Hills Deli is bringing back their popular Chilli Crab Pasta with a twist – the Chilli Prawn Pasta (S$24), a mouth-watering pasta generously coated with house-made chilli rempah, topped with fresh prawns, tobiko and mizuna greens.

Rhubarb Lemonade

For beverages, try robust and aromatic coffees that are brewed using exclusive beans from ONA coffee, a popular Australian-specialty coffee roaster or outlet-exclusive beverage creations such as the Rhubarb Lemonade (S$7) and Espresso Sparkling (S$7). The latter is iced long black coffee infused with sparkling water and topped with lemon slices, an invigorating drink that you should try if you’re up for a little gastronomic adventure.

While it serves as a great pitstop during the work day, it transits into a bar for after-work gatherings after 5pm.

Offering an alcohol menu with fresh Australian craft beer on tap (from S$15) from cult brands like Moon Dog Lager and One Drop Brewing Co, Australian wine (S$15) in Red, White and Rose selections, and Gin & Tonic Cocktail (S$18), it also serves tasty bites like Whoppie Wings (S$12), Triple Truffle Fries (S$12) and Tater Tots (S$12).
