These sakura petal-shaped treats are actually marshmallow you can add to your desserts

A trip to Japan this spring for a coveted hanami (sakura viewing) may be out of question at this point, but here’s how some people may be able to enjoy the iconic flower: in the form of a sweet treat.

Japanese confectioner Eiwa’s Sakurairo Marshmallows are shaped like a cherry blossom petal and its detail is quite amazing. The marshmallow even features the sakura’s distinctive cleft and is made with sakura extract. There are two flavours available: pink sakura marshmallows and white sakura latte marshmallows.

Besides having them on its own by tossing them into your mouth, they’re also a great way to enhance other desserts such as cupcakes and pancakes or to add to a cup of hot latte.

They retail for 140 yen (~S$1.76) for a 65-gram bag and are available online.
