On 14 June, you can pay for drinks with… a cucumber?!

Come 14 June 2019, you can leave your cards and cash at home when you head to a bar, because all you need is a cucumber!

If you are highly puzzled by this strange form of currency, hear us out: 14 June is actually World Cucumber Day, and it was invented in England by cucumber growers in 2011 to celebrate the virtues of this humble vegetable.

For the uninitiated, the cucumber actually plays a vital role in giving Hendrick’s Gin its pleasingly unusual flavour. Hence, Hendrick’s Gin holds the vegetable in the highest regard, and has celebrated this special day every year by allowing people to exchange a real cucumber for a Hendrick’s & Tonic.

This year, the cucumber celebration is bigger and better, with 42 participating bars across Singapore accepting the green cucumber as legal tender. All species of cucumbers will be accepted – as long as they are real.

You can exchange a cucumber for a Hendrick’s & Tonic during Cucumber Hour (from 7 to 10pm) at the following partner bars:

&SONS, 79 After Dark Restaurant & Bar, Anti:Dote, Artemis, Aura, BeGin @ Boat Quay, Ce La Vi, COSMO Restaurant & Wine Bar, Don Ho, Dragon Chambers, ERWIN’S Gastrobar, Grey Gin Bar, Horse’s Mouth, Martini Bar – Grand Hyatt, Idlewild, Jekyll & Hyde, KPO, Le Coq, Bar on 5 – Mandarin Orchard, Mischief, Miss G’s, Mitzo, Monarchy, Oxwell & Co, Potato Head, PS Café – Fullerton, Que Pasa, Rookery – Capitol Tower, Rookery – Hong Leong Building, Six Senses, Skai, 1864 – Sofitel Singapore City Centre, SOS Bar, Southbridge, Sum Yi Tai, Tess Bar & Kitchen, The Winery, Timbre X @ The Arts House, Timbre X @ The Substation, Wan, Yellow Pot Bar, and Redtail.
